Use the oil of your choice. Have a lab test done at 10k and learn you've got another 3-4k of life left.

OTC or boutique, it doesn't matter if you aren't going to extend the OCIs to at least the 10k.

That said, there is no advantage to paying more for boutique oils such as Amsoil, Royal Purple, Redline, etc.

BTW, no OE comes with those installed. But several come with M1 installed.

Oil changes are over rated. Just trade the truck in every 10k or so.

    Yes. Bring Vaseline.

The old printer approach. It's not worth it to swap out the ink. Just buy a new one.

    Heat.

0W-20 is Toyota's "it will be OK in all 50-states, will help improve our corporate average MPG, and we only warranty the engine for 60k miles anyway" recommendation.

10W-30 is closer to optimal for the Sunshine State. It provides adequate cold cranking flow down to 0° F, much colder than it will ever get even here in Saint Augustine¹, and much better protection in the heat of summer.

    ------------------------------
¹ - The coldest I've seen in in my 25 years here was 27° and that was 15 years ago for just two hours before dawn, it's never been below 45° or 50° in the garage)...

    I use Mobil1 0W20 synthetic ftw.
I use it in extreme hot humid (110*) weather, mild & cold no issues.

Before that I've used Castrol, but its made by BP who gave us the gulf oil spill, so I dropped them.

Whichever you decide to do, as long as it meets oem specs, you should be g2g. The only other thing I do is I'm consistent and stick to the same brand & viscosity.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

Why? I mean i get it but im not taking my time and money to prove you wrong. Ive worked in many dealerships in parts and service. Ive talked to mobil and manufacturer reps. Mobil has a comparison tool on their site. It isnt to talk about how much better m1 is compared to competition, it is to compare their different oils.

A quick search on bitog will tell you toyota's version of m1 is highly regarded as the "best" on a forum that only discusses oil

Florida is not hot. Try Arizona where is 113-116F daily.

Mostly Mobil 1 since they run the rebate twice a year and I stock up using 4 different addresses, but I usually put in whatever is on sale when I am needing an oil change. I've put castrol and pennzoil in and haven't had any issues. I just shoot for 10-20 dollars / 5 qt.

Im sure you mean qts insteas of 5 gallons. Even 5 quarts of full syn id be shocked if they had sales for $10. Ive seen bulk semi synthetic at that price but 0w20 is a full synthetic and i dont think ive ever seen full syn under 2.50 a qt
