Hailstorm played hell with my garden. Squash got hit the hardest. Hopefully they can bounce back; if not I'll probably have to write them off for the year because there's not enough season left for me to start them over.

I'd be less irritated if my GF hadn't been home at the time. Rather than covering the plants up when she heard that it might hail, she ran out and pulled her 10 year old company-supplied POS Chevy 1500 work truck into the garage.

    Yeah...
I've had "build a new back deck with a Pergola and some hanging Edison lights once I finish up a few more projects around the house" on my 'to do' list since we signed on the dotted line for the house in the realtor's office.

We'll have been there 5 years this October.

There's always something else lined up, lol.

I'd intended to do both decks at the same time a couple of years ago, but I dislocated my shoulder right after I replaced the front deck, so the time I'd set aside for building it got shifted into the time I spent waiting for my shoulder to be 100% again. I just need to actually set the time aside again to do it, but there's always something else that seems to take priority.

Edit- Right now the back deck is the same crappy vinyl setup that was on the front of the house. I want to replace it with PT, same as I did on the front side.

After you make the holes with a hole saw use a drywall saw and make the bottom wider than the top. It will give the roots more room to grow. Like a cone shape.

Our corn is about mid waist high now...I'll be surprised if we actually get anything off them this year as its the first year in this new garden area. The soil does need work, this fall Im going to douse it with a good layer of steer manure and let it sit over the winter and next year it should be much better! Our cabbage is starting to pick up and green beans are starting to flower as are some of the potato's.

Our beans are starting to come on as well. I'll be sick of them in three weeks.

I'll give a bunch away, and eat em 2-3 times a week. We just planted a second crop last week, I'll freeze all of those for the winter.
