+1... haven't towed anything yet, but the low/mid torque is great, considering the vehicle weight, engine size & potential mpg.

I love my sr it gets around 17.5 mpg's I have been recording fuel on every fuel up and I have 33k on it. Around 15k the trucks power was noticeably better like it broke in. Love how it runs. Still may try a header to improve power band.

    Update to this.

Over the past 3 days I have driven 412.2 miles, and just filled up w/ 16.07 gallons to the first click. 25.7 mpg! This is my regular work commute plus a few errands on top of that. I'm very happy with that. Mostly hwy driving, cruise set at 62mph.

Now that I have an idea what it can do, I'm going to bump it up to the speed limit so I do not anger so many semi-drivers (70mph).

Do you think they'll ever release a software upgrade for more power on the 2.7?

After seeing Moe 204's Dino results on the Gen 3 with the LCE header, I don't know what to think about this. The header did not add much low end torque like it did on the Gen 2.
I also have this header and can confirm this. The engine is smoother and more efficient with the header and high rpm power is better though.
I think much of this is because the cylinders are now balanced and all at the same mixture. With the stock header, the ecm adds fuel till the O2 sensor sees no more oxygen. So it brings the healthiest cylinder up by adding fuel (to all cylinders). This leaves the excess fuel of the other cylinders to be burned by the CAT which wastes fuel.

So if you could go back and do it again you wouldn't bother with the header?

Would do the LCE header again. The engine is smoother and gained About 1 or 2 MPG. I see 24 Mpg like clockwork. I could do this before the header, but that was driving easy with no air conditioning.

I got my 2016 4cyl Tacoma SR5 with the 5 speed MT just a few months ago.. It's got 17,000km and is my first manual transmission vehicle (not the first I've ever driven). It's not going win any drag races from a standstill, but first gear, while VERY short, provides a great amount of torque. It's a fairly picky transmission I find... It wants to be driven a certain way. That said, it's a blast to drive and is super quiet and efficient at high speed! I'll never buy another automatic tranny again.

Drove a manual UPS truck for 15 years & my left knee is done. I gotta love the automatic tranny nowadays.

You may not have a choice in the future, manual transmissions are being phased out. Many newer generation drivers can't drive them, and the new auto's let the automakers and EPA control when and how the vehicle shifts. The manual Transmission is on the Endangered Species list

I'm in the same boat. I put mine in S4 in town and S5 on the highways so I don't mind this 2.7 Auto.

    I don't use 6th gear.

Guy I know retired early from UPS for the same reason.

Well I'm out in 2019 & hopefully I find some time to scope the old knee. I rather enjoy retirement fishing then maintaining the damage UPS created for 25 years.

Had mine scoped in 1995 and I'm 55 now, trying to make it to the next life without getting a knee replacement.
