Two weeks has passed and I really miss my Taco. Body shop has it from a minor accident. Someone decided to make a turn into my driver side rear door. My rental is a Ram 1500 with a 5.7L Hemi V8. Fast as hell with that classic American rumble from the big engine, but that is about all I like about it. No doubt now, I love my Taco.

That would've been a perfect time to gave some solid rock sliders. Might have saved the door.

I was wondering if they would have saved it or not. The rocker is beat up and there's a puncture in the metal on the bottom right. Rear door is getting replaced. Rocker from front to back being replaced. As for the puncture, body shop is waiting on final word from Toyota as to where the cut/weld should be made to repair or if replacing the whole outer cab is needed.

My body shop guy wheeled and dealed getting me the truck. They give a lot a business to the rental agency that's across the street from them apparently.

For some reason suddenly I'm liking the swoopy valance below the headlights/grill blending into the front bumper on that particular Ram.

I traded a RAM 1500 Hemi for my '17 Tacoma M/T. I hear what you're saying about the awesome power and feel of the Hemi. It's badass, but the Tacoma is a much better truck overall. I would never give up my Taco for a RAM.

That's too bad, I got my truck back from the body shop about a month ago. Similar damage, but affected both doors, cab corner, and bedside. Mine was at the body shop for an entire 3 weeksIMG_6288.jpg

I've wondered about this as well, but seeing as how sliders are attached directly to the frame (either bolted or welded), would that not mean that he may have suffered much more catastrophic damage had he had sliders on? A substantial impact to the sliders would essentially be a substantial impact more directly to the frame, which could tweak/bend it more easily than if it had just swiped the body instead...or am I wrong?

I've wondered this about bumpers as well when someone brings up that a steel plate bumper would have helped in a collision...a small fender bender sure, but in an actual collision wouldn't it make matters worse for the person with the armor attached to the frame?

Ouch, that sucks. Did they replace the rear door? Front seems like they could repair. Were they able to salvage the existing metal on the back of your cab? I have a puncture/hole in mine and the rocker is deeply creased. The body shop was saying they might replace the entire outer cab portion on the driver side now.

I'm by no means an engineer or physicist but I think a rock slider would spread the energy of the impact out over the length of the frame (at least the portion where they're attached.) There's a good video of a guy dropping a 4runner with frame sliders onto a large boulder and it isn't doing much damage at all. Guess we need someone to try lol.

Both of my doors and whole bedside were replaced. The cab corner was able to be repaired, they pushed it out. My cab corner wasn't as bad as yours though.
