There's a lot of pages in this thread and I'll admit I didn't scour all 570+... Are most of you who are installing fridges going with an extra battery to run the fridge? Could someone link to your setup as I'm wondering how you mounted everything up and powered the battery.

I did mine a little differently than most since my extra battery is on a separate circuit but I think most that have a fridge and use it frequently end up going to a dual battery setup of some sort. It isn't necessary per say, but it gets old worrying about your starting battery running down, or your fridge shutting off due to low voltage whenever you're parked for more than a couple days at a time..

I have a dual battery setup for the truck and a third house battery for the bed camper interior.

2480 km over 9 days it was a great trip. Had a couple navigating issues but overall it was epic

Random question, but if you're out on a remote trail with just your wife and kids and see someone with a broken down rig that can't be fixed there. Would you give him a lift back to town if asked? I think the most I can do in that scenario is to give food/water if needed and help him to establish communication with his parties with my sat phone or in-reach device. If I was traveling with a group, then it's not a big deal.

Never leave anyone behind or stranded!!
always stop and give assistance, unless the spidey senses start tingling. And I bring that up after reading a story on the Explorers Of The Mojave FB Page about the guy in the white 4runner who says 2 guys shot at him after trying to wave him over to where they were stopped.

2 weekends ago on my last trip we came across a dude who was in a duramax that had overheated and wouldn't start. We stopped and gave assistance and used just about 4 gallons of our water to fill the cooling system, he was by himself with a very senior dog and a puppy. After a good amount of time and not being able to get his truck started I gave him and his dogs a ride back into town which was Bishop. We were on the White Mtn. Traverse Route past the start of the switchbacks at nearly 10,000 feet when we came across him, and the temps were just above 100. It would have taking him hours to walk down into town.

    Mostly stuff I built.
All depends on the situation. I have towed broken rigs out out of remote locations in the past and on many occasions I have stopped and lent a helping hand to other travelers when there situation was bleak.

I am on general principle am a extremely cautious person when it comes to dealing with society and individuals I have not been in contact with before. However I was also taught to do what it right and that you reap what you sow. That being said I and all members of my family are armed 99% of the time and have the skills to take control when things go awry. I am not afraid to let anyone know that they will have to answer for their mistakes around me when it comes to the safety of my family.

Typical the folks you find in trouble on the trails are inexperienced and have gotten in way over their heads. They are usually very grateful for the assistance and all is well.

Have you guys heard the story on the TAT of the guy that tried to trap a rig with a fire on both sides of the trail after laying spike strips in a puddle to disable their rig?

There were! I think they found the guy who did it because the guy who was trapped shot his tailgate twice so they identified his truck. Trying to find the news article.

It was a local guy who didn't like people rolling through near his property.

Looking for it. I'm trying to remember which forum I read about it on. I think it was linked in this thread earlier but way too many pages ago.

    I'll report back

This was an amazing trip! 1035 miles, 4 days, and 3 nights of awesome weather, beautiful views, and fun hiking. I'll post a couple pictures later highlighting a couple spots.. including two camp spots we found late at night after leaving the parks for the day. They were incredible. I saved them for anyone else looking to camp in those areas outside the parks. As we found out.. not as many open places as we thought. that were convenient anyways.
