Moog Lower Control Arms

Yup, I just paid almost $200 for all of the hardware. I went OEM, read aftermarket doesn't hold the alignment well.

Installed the Moog LCA's this weekend, everything went good. Had to heat the cam hardware/lca bushing and the "frozen" bolts popped out. Was able to reuse 90% of the hardware and return the rest, got around $170 back from the dealer.

Everything feels night and tight, we'll see how the longevity is on them.

 

could someone confirm these are the lowers they got from RockAuto please. The TRD has the same lower as the pre-runner, correct? i was looking at a NAPA set cause they had grease fittings but you can only select between: base, pre-runner, or x-runner

^TRD, base, and PreRunner (i.e. 6-lug models) use the same LCAs.

X-Runner has a different LCA design shared with other 5-lug models.

Fittings in the bushings or on the ball joint? If it's on the bushings it would need to reach the internal of the bushing where the metal bushing sleeve and bolt touch. Moog makes the aftermarket bolts with a through-hole so the grease will get to where it needs to be, great idea but that hardware has poor reviews.

I was skeptical on using aftermarket LCA's but gave the Moog's a shot since the OEM's were selling for around $250/each. I choose moog because they were the only aftermarkets with good reviews, i'd make sure whatever napa has is a quality part.

 

The fittings were on the ball joint. They were minimally more $. RSG offroad recommended Napa to me and said they have 36K mile warranty, only reason I was looking into them. But they also quoted me at $1K for parts and labor install so warranty might be because they're any authorized installer.

 

Every moog part store LCA bushing ive seen fail very quickly. They literally have play right out of the box sometimes. I highly recommend just rebuilding the OEM's with either OEM bushings or polys greased correctly.

 

I've been looking at a set on ebay for 175 but rockautos price seems better. Besides those 2 options, I'm actually looking for someones used ones too. I need to keep mine on since the truck is a DD but I want to gusset another set so when I have all my suspension parts in, I can install everything at once? Anyone have some that are lightly used, maybe below 100k miles?

 

I've replaced my LCA about a 1yr ago with the Moogs when i installed my coilovers. I drive my truck pretty hard off road and the Moogs are still holding strong.

I went with rebuilding the oem ones - I had sections of the oem ones welded for more rigidity and used whiteline bushings and prothane ball joints. The ball joints were too tight for me to press in with my harbor freight press so I had a dealer do it and they even had a hard time. I haven't installed it yet but I bought all new hardware and coated them with a dry film lubricant then I will never seize the crap out of them for install.

 

Only negative about Moog I've heard is people using moog bushings in OEM LCAs. However, I haven't really found a negative review on a set of Moog LCAs with Moog bushings.

 

If you are mobbing hard enough to require gussetting, get upgraded LCAs from Dirt King or TC.

 

i got the Moog LCA's with balljoint and bushings from rockauto along with their greasable cam bolts as I had to cut apart my old seized ones. I've been running them pretty hard for about 3 months now, including lots of dirt road, snow, mud, and dust.

sat them beside the OEM ones, and couldn't tell the difference. probably the exact same part from the same factory. Even the inside is painted. I was quite impressed.

The cam bolts are a different design than stock, that is much simpler, but works just the same. I haven't had any problems, and I like that they are greasable so i wont have to cut them off eventually, as that was a real pain.

 

I got a set of these for one side: Only I bought them from O'Reilly's and paid twice as much (they brand theirs SPP, but it has the SPC logo on the washers). They don't compare well with the OEM. I had to get them in a pinch because reasons, but if I were keeping the truck I'd get OEM parts to replace whatever isn't reusable. The forward bolt started to cross thread just as I was putting it on for the first time, but not enough to make a huge impact. The OEM ones are a better design, too.

that's what I got for cams. doesn't say in the info, but they are greasable.

Better solution would be to get replacement OEM cam bolts and grease the shanks on assembly.
