Mourning: Toyota's Taking My Truck Back

So, after 6 repair attempts and a Lemon Law warranty claim, Toyota has agreed to take my 09 back, pay off my loan, and give me back the money spent on payments, the down, warranty, and prorated registration. I have some mixed feelings about this as I am quite fond of my truck, but am seriously irritated that they could not fix my clutch pedal (binding when enagaging, resulting in deformation of various pedal components).

I have a few weeks before I need to surrender it and now I need to decide what to get next.

As much as I love the manual transmission, I think I'll likely get a 2010 with an automatic transmission. I love my truck and want another one. However, (and I know this might be blasphemy here) when my wife and I went to test drive the automatic a few days ago, the FJ Cruisers really caught our eyes. Damn the distraction!

Update: Decision made! Truck's gone and I'm two week's into my new one!

Aside from color, the only difference is the automatic tranny, which, surprisingly, is very nice. She also tows very well and my gas mileage is much better, by 2 to 3 mpg.

damn, that sucks, but on the other hand you'll be in a brand new truck in no time, thats good!

 

I've heard that the automatics drive nice after the flash to update, but I still like driving a manual...I'd get another manual if it were me.

 

My Tacoma is my first auto EVER !! And I only bought it cause I liked the way it drove . Also got married a couple years ago and my wife hated driving my jeep but I've been pretty happy and that surprised me!! Anyway just my two cents

 

Also there's nothing wrong with an fj it's still a Toyota! But I promise you will miss the bed on your truck!

 

It's kind of a pain- but at least you are getting out of a crappy situation and probably into a better one.

FJ's ARE pretty bad ass!!

 

+1. I like shifting, but I do not like the clutch on my Tacoma.

FJs are awesome! Dunno if I could ever get rid of my truck, but I'd get an FJ if only my wife didn't like them lol

 

I seriously considered the FJ. I like it but eventually opted for the Tacoma for its practicality.

The only reason I wanted the FJ is for its off road capabilities. Honestly, If I was buying a rig for off road capabilities alone, I would have bought a 4 door Jeep Rubicon.

I almost traded for an FJ last year, but they are so expensive, and not willing to come down at all on price. My truck is paid for, so I'll just use the extra money to buy more mods!

Got both. Wife drives FJ. FJ is probably more fun to drive - more neutral feeling/better balanced. Better brakes (at least my '08 FJ does). FJ is more practical (for us) day to day. It's an auto and gets very, very slightly better mileage - it's an auto. So say our ScanGauges. We like them both though. The Tacoma is more deluxe inside and quieter.

 

The 4 door has a longer wheelbase. Short wheel base Jeeps are seriously sketchy going up and down steep hills.

I like the short wheel base on a Jeep because of where you can fit it. I got into a huge debate about wheel base and bumper clearance with a Jeeper. He was able to drive straight into a crevasse and cross it cause the rear in dropped in....I had to creep it almost parallel to get thru it. He called me a pussy. So I called him an assclown....Then I drove over a log that his wheel base wouldn't let him clear- and I called him an assclown again. And then it was over.

 

i don't like the new fj's..they are too big for my tastes...i'd love to have an old one though

I like the new Jeep Rubicons, but I just can't wrap my head around having a 3.8L pushrod mini van motor under my hood. As much as those things cost, why don't they put the 4.0L SOHC v6 or even one of their v8 engines in that thing?
