Worth upgrading stock speakers?

Is it worth shopping for better speakers that fit in the stock places?

Is this a question of whether it's worth upgrading the speakers? Or whether it's worth hunting to find ones that fit without custom modding?

It isn't the greatest ROI, but there is a noticeable improvement.

You can make the adapters from plastic cutting boards very easily (credit to this forum for the idea). I'm working through some mounting/installation issues with my sub, LOC, and amps right now, so I currently just have a couple of 6.5" components running off of the factory head unit. They are better than the stock speakers and once you see the factory speakers, you'll realize how there is no way that they couldn't be.

That said, they are underpowered, which is why I say the ROI isn't the greatest. I'd recommend getting a good brand with a higher sensitivity so that they don't require quite as much power to be driven IF you will not be adding an amp. Best bet, though, is to go ahead and add a small amp to them, though.

 

Probably not worth upgrading just the speakers..... you'd probably have to upgrade the radio too

 

I was pleasantly surprised by the stock speakers on the Tacoma. I have thought about replacing them too but I think the difference will be marginal. On the jeep I came from bass sounded like flicking a piece of paper. In that case it was worth it for sure, I don't think so here though.

 

If you do it, use sound deadener behind and around them. The stock speakers are junk and have magnets the size of a quarter. You'll notice an improvement in sound quality for sure.

 

VERY sound advice here (pun intended).

While you have the panels off and the speaker removed, go ahead and add some sound deadening and, at the very least, an inexpensive sound isolating foam. NOICO makes a good product for pretty cheap.

That made a wonderful difference in the sound (or lack of) inside the vehicle, regardless of how the speakers sound.

I haven't upgraded my speakers, but upgraded the head unit. That alone made the sound much better and livened up the stock speakers. I'm sure that you probably have a better factory radio than I did, so just a speaker upgrade may be good to go along with the entune system.

you can get adapters for super cheap. its a worthwhile upgrade to do speakers.

Then grab what ever 6x9's for the front, and 6.5in rounds in the rear..... dont waste your money on over priced taco tunes stuff.

 

Im grateful for all the great advice , im mot a very techy type guy and really like my head unit ..got problems backing up so that coupled with the blue tooth makes me want to keep that plus im on a budget.

 

YES. It is worth it. Speakers alone will give you about a 15% increase in max volume and a 50% improvement in sound quality.

Crutchfield sells adapters with their speakers that lets you just drop them in place into your doors. It takes longer to take the door panels out than it does to swap out and install better speakers. I really prefer Crutchfield for 2 reasons...1) lifetime support 2) they take most of the guesswork out and provide all the little stuff you need for install.

I really wanted an amplifier too, but didnt want to start cutting original wiring. I replaced all 4 speakers (quad cab) and Im very happy with the results. It took me less than an hour.

But an amp......once my truck is out of warranty....an amp is going in.....
