This is prolly true, but once someone come out they tend to really come out. Things change, people change.
Personally I don't understand the whole gay thing. Example is, a woman is a lesbian, but dates a woman who looks and tries to speak like a man, why...?
Or a guy dating another guy who tries to be like a woman.
Shit some even get sex changes, wtf is that all about?

You are biting off on all the worst aspects of the sterotypes.

I knew two GORGEOUS lesbians in college- And they straight up loved girls. You would never know unless you were friends with them and they told you.
Same with gay guys. Not every out of the closet gay guy wears rainbows and talks with a fabulous lisp...And I think the military lifestyle would not really interest a "flaming" gay guy.

My uncle is gay- He's a veterinarian with a nice house, and a life partner who does interior design. Before I knew what "gay" was- I didn't notice anything different about my uncle- then once I did know what gay was and he started bringing "friends" around....You figure it out. But he doesn't wave it around or put it on a billboard.

Do you think American male and female Soldiers, Marines, etc. should be showering together? Yes or no.

I don't care how other cultures do it - America has its own culture. Just answer, yes or no.

You are obfuscating around the issue. Gay Men and Woman are NOT THE SAME THING. And women are provided the opportunity to serve and shower in the same conditions as men. Gay individuals are not. They have to shower- Keeping their discomfort/opinions of the dirty stories around them to themselves....for fear of being called gay.

I don't care about who showers with who- so I wouldn't get all wound around the axle about men and women showering together. But I'm pretty liberal minded...

They are people of the opposite sexual orientation.

We don't allow our males to shower with our females because the behavior resulting from sexual attraction would be damaging to morale, cohesion, and discipline. Allowing individuals of opposite sexual orientations to shower together is no different.

The amount of harassment (both ways), inappropriate relationships, tension, and complaints would be more than it's worth. It's not as if gays can't serve - they just can't be open about it.

And it's not just showering - but showering is one of the clearer avenues to explain it through.

No...They are people of opposite sexes. Sexual Orientation is different.

The majority of the population would be attracted to having both sexes together. Just cause you are a man and there might be a gay guy in your unit does not mean he'll want to have sex with you. Not to mention- Accepting a derogatory/wrong behavior because it's easy?? Is that why we do things?? Cause they are easy??

And gays can't serve...Guys who are forced to hide who they are gay can serve- You don't have to change/act different from who you are to serve- Why should they??
Why should they have to act differently?? It's because ideas like yours are "easy" and more enjoyable- so they are forced to pretend like they aren't what the really are?? That is a a rights infringment- The exact thing you are fighting to prevent/preserve.

The only reason I can see that they should keep the policy is because of the potential for voilence against an openly gay troop by the straight anti gay troops.

Other than that it doesnt really matter.. although I dont think they should get a dishonerable discharge for being outed... just deny them re-enlistment let them finish there current enlistment, say thank you and show them the door. I am sure there are troops in all branches that are gay and are good at there specific career field, but sadly there are too many troops out there that would be to weirded out about being deployed and having to live with a gay troop. There would have to be too many changes made to allow them to serve openly, for one would they be allowed to get married in the states that allow gay marragies, and how would living quarters while deployed be arranged between gays and straights?

so this is what i have been able to gather so far. many military men, are capable of flying million dollar airplanes, driving million dollar tanks, killing people, blowing people/things up, putting up with the torture of basic training, getting up at ridiculous times, going for days without sleep, watching their friends and fellow soldier die next to them in a fox hole, march through swamps, live in deserts, dealing with verbal and mental abuse from superiors, not seeing their familly or friends for months or years at a time, dealing with lost limbs, the list could go on and on. but being able to do all this, they are still unable to cope with the idea of working/living/showering in proximity to a gay dude. grow up, you aren't in middle school anymore.

i'm confused, if gays are born gay, how is it a right?
i was born male, does that mean i have the right to be male?
and if you saw a guy throw like a girl, and called him on such, would you be violating his rights?

seems to me like any man willing to fight and die with you should be welcome, regardless of his sexual orientation

That's the definition of a natural right. A gay person, born gay, has no control over that condition (much like race or handicaps) and making employment decisions based on that condition is a violation of those rights.

And yeah...You do have the right to be a male...or a female.....or to go androgynous- As long as it doesn't effect anyone else. Just like they have the right to be gay...It doesn't effect you.

And yeah...I guess if you wanna take it to the extreme (which seems to be the only way an pro-DADT argument makes sense..) it's a rights violation. Pretty petty tho.

I guess in my open mindedness I included surgeries. And RIGHT to be male and CHOSING to be male are two different things.

As a condition of employment: You must be a female. Would not fly in many places. But: You must appear straight. No problem apparently. That's a right.
Get your wang snipped/tucked or run around in drag- That's a choice.

Not sure what PR has to do with.

And no....You gotta appear straight. You gotta laugh at the jokes and listen to people around you use the word "gay" or "homo" like it's a bad thing. Or you gotta be an outcast that everyone has their suspicions about. Or you gotta speak out...and get separated from the military.
