At least you guys got a loaner, I was bumming rides to and from work for 5 days from family and co-workers. :bananadead:
I am happy to update that I got my truck back. The cocksuckers didn't really address or give an explanation the abnormal shift issue. Guess I'll just keep using ECT for now.
Their solution to the weeping was to special order PN 42181-KK010, "gasket different". They told me to call them in about a week to schedule the install. I found it interesting that the tech caught and noted the aftermarket oil filter I installed when I changed the oil myself before 5k miles. Hopefully that doesn't work against me in the future. I still think that it's a dick move to note it.

China subbed the work to North Korea. Let's face it - no one is getting any gaskets.

I got an email today from my service manager pretty much saying "you know how I told you two weeks? Well, it's looking like it's going to be another two weeks."

In the very beginning of this recall one of the members here was speaking to one of the Toyota Service managers and they had said "Toyota" is really worried, doesn't want to have to replace entire rear axle/rear ends. Whatever that means........ But......It is very possible this recall has nothing to do with improperly torqued bolts or bad gaskets, instead it is very possible the carrier assembly and rear axle assembly are "off" and don't mate together well (the official NHTSA recall even hints at this). So the duct tape fix is to put a thicker gasket and stronger bots and torque it down harder, and their has already been cases with the fix didn't stop the leaking. They are hoping they can get away with the gasket and fasteners but in the end that may not work. It is also interesting many trucks Not on the recall list have the same issue. This means Toyota really has no clue.

When Toyota engineered the 3rd Gen the Objective was to change the truck and make it cheaper to make, this means many many corners cut

Took the truck in for it's 16,000 km service today. No leaks at the differential (yea). Torqued the bolts and off we go. At my dealership anyway, so far no leak from any of the Taco's they've inspected (that's what they told me). My truck was built in Texas if that means anything........

Yeah my truck was built in Texas also but the dealership has in its possession since June 21st and told me that I should spect to get it back by July 20th. This whole thing is very tiring this is why I put in an email to the CEO supposed to hear back on Tuesday.

I'd be very surprised if you actually hear from the CEO. More likely some canned response like "I'm sorry to hear of your recent experience.... We take all customer feedback seriously and always strive to .... Blah blah blah.... Please feel to call Toyota Corporate...." Blah blah blah.

Yea you're right I give you that but I already went through that process which was calling the 800 number. The email of CEO was forwarded to his assistant which I heard from her today she said to give her two Tuesday I would hear back from her because I have more than just the rear differential problem.

Sorry to hear that. That is exactly what I'm trying to avoid I don't want to be 2 or 3 months without my truck it's already been 2 weeks 2 weeks too long.

It's pretty absurd that they are doing this. They gotta be paying a mint to the dealerships and Enterprise for loaners.

I guess it's less money than getting sued for millions if people's diffs explode and hurt people.

As far as the diff assembly all being jacked, I think it is linked to the howling. I doubt it's just gaskets and it's a bandaid just like someone mentioned previously.

I took my truck in today for my service appointment that I made a month ago to ensure a loaner in case the shit hit the fan.
A month ago my diff was dry, yesterday I checked it and walla 2 wet spots :annoyed:.
So here I go to the service department anyway.

Pulled in and before the SA could say anything I asked him "do you have the parts for the rear diff repair?"
    He said "no"
I said "fk that then I'm not letting you service my truck and take it hostage, call me when you get the parts in"
He said "no worries, you didn't note that concern on your service ticket so we won't even look at it "
I said "so you mean to tell me while my truck is on the lift and you see wet spots your not going to take it hostage?"
    He said "no"

So I let um service my truck and 2 hours later it was ready to be picked up. After fob in hand
I then asked him "when are you going to get the parts in?"
He said " we're still waiting and have 80 trucks held waiting for parts"
I said "WTF ?? You guys can't order parts in bulk?"
He says "we don't order parts until we have inspected the vehicle "
Again I say" WTF ? You mean to tell me that if I wait 6 months until you play catch up and I make an appointment, your not going to order parts until you inspect it?"
He said "yes, that's how it works for a recall "
I said "well you better have a Tacoma loaner waiting for me and a new CPS sensor on the parts list"
He said "I'll make that happen "

I said "okay , so what about the damp foam under my carpet up front ?"
He pointed out a bad seal on the lower rear part of the cab and says it needs to go to a body shop because they have to pull my bed off :annoyed:.
Okay do what you gotta do bye .
Still love my Taco btw ....

Sounds about right. Toyota wants to spend as little money as possible on the recalls. So they are ordering parts on a case by case basis. Just like the frame recall BS. Trucks were held over a year on that.

Toyota probably has a huge discount with enterprise so it is not as much money as it seems. They probably heavily discount vehicles to them.

Time for a class action lemonlaw action.
