Just realized that this is most likely ganna be a never ending thread.

 

That's cause it is- If you were deprived of something. you'd be upset. Instead you are worried that somehow you are going to be deprived of something if they are given their rights.

And this is why we don't have nice threads.

What does being gay have to do with anything.

If I have gray hair, a single nut, one ovary, 18-21 years of age, married, single, heterosexual male or female, rich, poor, blue eyes or brown, the list goes on and on, should I be afforded special, preferential treatment?

The current government policy states that we don't wish to know your sexual preference. In fact we won't ask and please don't tell us. If you chose to tell us we will be obligated to release you from your duties to the United States Military.

Until the masses are educated, current change to this policy can only result in massive change to the military as it is today.

So you are pretty much just trolling?? Really would appreciate you not screwing this thread up. There are a lot of opinions on both sides that have been discussing pretty good....Like to keep it that way.

 

yes, it is always productive to discuss things that you have no control over and will have to respect regardless.
when i was young, i would often debate, with friends, my curfew times and appropriate punishments for misbehaving that my parent's would use, since i had no say in the matter.

 

Not exactly...The policy says we don't want to know your sexual preference if it doesn't fit in our clean little mold. If you are straight we have no problem with your joking around and being vulgar. But if you are gay- you have all these extra rules to deal with. That is reverse preferential treatment- aka discrimination.

And "massive change" isn't bad. Resisting change for the sake of resisting change...That's the easy way out.

 

Well...Then why come post at all?? Talking for the sake of talking can be productive...

 

I know that everyone on both sides of an issue come off like pricks now and again.
I was more making the point about trolling and making comments for the sake of trying to screw up/lock the thread...

Sorry, this post has gone in circles so many times.

The massive change probably will happen some time in the future. Personally, the best to hope for is the military would be allowed to determine when to implement, polices itself, and educates prior to any change.
Just taking the position that tomorrow everyone is allowed to let his/her sexual preference be know and your gonna learn to live with it. This is gonna cause one hell of a headache no matter what the outcome.

 

i'm not sure what your response has to do with my orignal post. i'm not sayinganyone needs any special treatment, i'm saying its stupid for military men to be so all around badass yet get so squeamish at the thought being close to a gay guy.

But if you have read all the posts you will see that many, many who have responded would feel squeamish around an avowed gay guy. Right or wrong it has a lot to do with how we were raised.
Just because you tell us we have to conform does not mean we will do so willingly. It means even in this day and age this is one issue that needs to be handled with care.
IMO with this change there will be special treatment. Someone, whether gay or not is going to demand it. It likely will start way up at the top of the paygrades.
