e-brake help!!

i need to order some parts for my ebrake. i need the parts that the cables go to on each back wheel (its like a lever) both of mine are seized and have no idea what they are called to order new ones...

anyone?

 

Did you try removing them and try to free them. I had the same problem and as rusty as they get, they can be freed up. Mine did anyway.

 

Just ask the parts department when you go in.
That's what they are there for.

 

I'm not sure what the actual lever is called, but the assembly is the "bell crank", which would be the lever plus the aluminum bracket that holds it on.

It is really quite easy to repair yourself if you're so inclined. A detailed guide can be found here The basics of it is unscrew a few bolts, clean it up good (and paint), add some grease, and reassemble. Also a good time to change your rear brakes if needed (specially if it was seized while engaged).

When I recently did mine, I ended up having to hit it a few times in order to get the lever out, but it'll come out eventually.

I know the dealer wanted to charge me $350-400 to replace both bell cranks.

 

One of mine seized, so I took it off when I replaced the rear brakes and cleaned it in a parts cleaner and lubed it. It worked great, then the other one seized up a couple months later, and I gave up on my ebrake.

You don't actually need it anyways, especially in an automatic. In a manual, if it rolls a little on a steep hill, or you're afraid it will, then put it in L4 and it won't budge.

 

I agree, but my state requires a working parking brake to pass inspection...

 

So does mine, yet I've passed 2 inspections without one...

 

$350-400? holy hell! I have a platinum warranty so mine were done for free. They even replaced the rod and spring where the handle is. Probably overkill with that.

On the paper work they gave me after the repair no mention of lever just bell cranks like Manlaan says.
