It's actually very easy to set it up. Only took me about 2 minutes and I was a little buzzed.

How fast was the time? My ground tent is an 8 person Coleman..... it takes 20 minutes to set up. Plus the cots........ the big plus I see is a 5 minute setup, bedding can be left inside ready to go...... After a long day of travel, that would be nice.

I'd say it took no more than 5 mins total including pumping up my pad with just my breath. I've got external poles on the tent. It took me longer to blow the pad up than to set up the tent. Like I said it's just a 2 person rei tent. Super easy to set up. I want a rtt just to be clear, but the cost of them plus the mile per gallon hit, it's just as easy to set up a ground tent.

While everybody is talking about set up time, someone educate me.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but do most leave the RTT on all the time or store it and attach to the truck before a trip?

If the latter is the case, how long does it take to get the RTT on the truck?

I remember my first night sleeping on just a pad and a sleeping bag... was little weird but honestly no bivy sack nor ground tent nor rtt nor a camper for that matter will stop a hungry bear lol

best have that .45-70 gov't handy in some parts of the back country

I've come across a couple bears, around 600lbs, hiking around. Camping on the ground, in the pitch dark hearing the rain drops hitting the tent and stuff rustling around makes me a little nervous. Always have my .44 in my hand lol. Told my friends of they hear gun fire, lay flat on the ground lol.
I feel that if I get a RTT, least I can shoot down at it. Hell, just being up high would make me feel better

    RTT because bear country.

Expensive because they are shipped from china and not that many can fit in a Sea Can as compared to dollar store junk. Also 5 per pallet at 120lbs each. The business wholesalers selling the tent needs to make $400 for it to be worth it to sell them, (tepui arb cvt) then the retailer local parts store needs to make $200 markup as well.

Lol k maybe my numbers are off but probably not by much.

I plan on leaving it on for the summer. It really doesn't affect my mileage anyway. It's a two person job, weighs about 100lb. The more clever of us have a pulley system rigged up in their garage. With a couple people it goes on my truck in about 10 minutes.

Except... a Tacoma Pro vs Tacoma TRD OR have very few differences.

A well made RTT (say CVT for example) and a Coleman ground tent have very few similarities.

But the SR and SR5 are still good options for those who can't afford, or don't want to spend extra for a TRD.

If you aren't against buying used items. I picked up a cvt for 450$ and a smittybilt for 375$. The smittybilt was just about brand new except for the fact it was used twice. Just be patient, keep an eye out and be ready to pull the trigger when you find a deal like that. Lol

Work in progress...I will have to do a build thread later. Tried to build this as legit as possible and I can tell you that I the price of buying one is reasonable.

Yes but comparing two Tacomas is like comparing two apples.

You are comparing an apple with asparagus.

If you were comparing CVT and Tepui that be apples and oranges. Both would be fruit at least.

expensive cuz of cost to market, they are actually pretty new. Shipping from china has a lot of fees and i have checked through a broker. The construction in them are pretty decent and the setup convenience has its costs, mine takes 10 seconds after the cover comes off.
