I just went out and measured again and I'm exactly 12" from the back glass to the first upright of the rack. With the tent mounted I'll have about 3" less. If you guys are saying 9" is not enough room to deploy the window I still have time to re-drill my rails to slide the tent back just a hair. I really appreciate the feedback guys.

Kinda same here, I normally open 3, just not the window facing the cab.

My original motivation for moving the tent close to the cab is that I plan to use my tailgate area for a kitchen. Because of that I also bought an awning that will mount to the back of the rack and stretch over the kitchen area. Maybe I'll just cut my side rails down and drill 2 sets of mounting holes so it can be mounted far forward or midway back. I'm new to the rtt thing and just assumed Id need that cab facing window open.

Yeah I have a tent on my topper already but I've been debating going to a bed rack to get it lower on the truck. Still undecided what I want to do because the topper is super convenient to have.

I had that debate with myself but like the shell too much so I put the RTT on a little trailer.

This guy does 10 day explorations in the Applachain mountains here in VA. He says with the trailer he gets 3mpg. He is supercharged also. And all of his trunk and back seat is filled with fridges, solar stuff.. way more than anyone can imagine!
