Cyclist wanna be here. I have kids though. Phils trailhead is where the mtb trails are. Old logging roads and 2 tracks everywhere. Just drive any direction 5 mins out of town and you'll see them.

If you head out to Sisters, you can mt. bike the Peterson Ridge trail, which is also nice and not usually so crowded/uptight. Juniper trail out by Eagle Crest is also a nice place to mt. bike. You can even drive around the Cline Butte area in your truck while you are there. Willy would caution you to have sliders if you do go.

You can take your truck to the dealer, Kendall Toyota, or maybe one of us could help out. If it were a 2nd gen, I could do it in 10 mins with what I have on my truck. Any other 3rd gen owners that can help?

Have a 7 month old so I am time-constrained but can ride for ~1 hr usually early AM - was thinking quick loop on Whoops when I can ride. Are all the logging roads around legal to drive (I'd assume it's indicated if they aren't)? I just want to peruse and play a little in the dirt with the Taco. I don't have a skid plate so I am limited and I also have no experience so I am looking for rookie-friendly terrain.

After Whoops, take a drive to Tumalo Falls. It's an easy dirt road at the end of Skyliner. You can also take the family to check out the falls (https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/deschutes/recarea/?recid=38526).

Just got back from a lap from Phil's to Whoops, always fun trails but so blown out in areas already, can be sketchy at high speeds. I'd recommend going to higher altitude to find tackier dirt (sand) - Wanoga area, Tumalo Falls area. +1 for PRT in Sisters also, if you take it to the top, cross NF-16 and hit the 3-4ish mi stretch out and back, it's got some really fun flowy spots. Good resource - bendtrails.org

Just order a lift for the wife's 4runner. Nothing fancy but it'll help with towing the camper.

Was just there with @JayMac, @Benzdriver81, and @Bennett707. I didn't get to camp, but pretty sure there are a ton of spots.

I was just there for one night. I would not recommend the first couple miles up China Hat Road...Looked for something quick and camped with homeless people.... Not cool haha

We actually ended up camping at Bull Prairie Lake, which is a fair bit north of Bend. Had some pretty decent wheeling spots on the NFS roads with lots of small rocks and dust, a spot or two of big rocks, and some mud. The campground was super empty and quite nice. Biggest fire rings we'd ever seen. Burned pallets. Definitely recommended.

You could go out Edison butte, one of my personal favorites for camping especially when you make it to the cabin. Wonderful views of the lakes below. That said, it's the weekend for the 4th so we're expecting about half the nation to be out in the woods. May not find much next to water.

Careful with fires, it's getting dry.

I think I'm going to try elk lake. I want to hit crater lake while I'm down there as well but I think the camp sites near there will probably be all full

I would think on a holiday weekend you would have to have a reservation and be $29 a night ish.
But deff a must see. It's busy over here on the warmer weekends.

There's quite a few spots that are first come, first served. I basically figure I'll start at one campsite and continue until I find one that's open. Or I'll go camp in the forest somewhere.

I'm heading down to Bend in August with two days of nothing planned. Any areas I should check out for in-town stuff or cool trail zones?

Was there a few weeks back. Would've liked to check this area out a little more. The views from the top of the hill were amazing. Totally worth it!

Every dent, scratch, buckle, bruise, crease and slice on my truck is a result of this place. I decided I need a spare truck to go there.
    Totally worth it.
