IIRC it was based on fan experience, which was rated as a combination of the building they play in, where they play, the number of championships won, and the success in the regular season.

If he leaves it has tobe for Toronto, now way around it. Montreal cant afford him, I dont see him heading to NY from the islanders, but in the end I think he resigns.

My guess is JVR will be gone, along with a couple others (Bozak and/or Komarov?)

The same is true for every team in the east, its going to be a very competitive year. But you're right, Tampa has the most to prove after failing to make the playoffs. With all the FA acquisitions I predict the Atlantic will show some dominance over the metro, but then again the best thing about the NHL is any team can win in any rink any night. Its a well balances sport when it comes to talent.

It is sad, but the dynamic in Ft. Lauderdale is a lot different, I really think Vinik made hockey in Tampa what it is, maybe the Panthers can get there soon. But it looks like Florida is moving into rebuild mode after losing some of their key assets. Marchassult was one of the most underrated players in Tampa, and suprised FLP didn't protect him. Vegas will love him and he will certainly get a pay raise next contract.

Toronto still has lots of cap left. They only appear to be up against the cap if you don't knock off the players on LTIR. That coupled with trading either JVR or Bozak would open up more than enough room for Tavares.

Explain? Not doubting, I just don't understand how they have all of this room? Aren't they right up against it, even after the LTIR is removed? I looked at a site that has them over cap right now without those salaries taken off. Then once they are, they still have no room. I just wasn't sure how you guys keep saying they have a ton of room.

Easily. If you just go and add up with the young players getting raises theres still tons of room. The media just likes to talk negative about everything with no reason. Gardiner, Komarov, Bozak, and JVR, all will be off plus others I can't think of on the top of my head. They have a ton of young players int their system that will replace them with ELCs. Marleau wont be on the cap the 3rd also, it's pretty clear. They structured the contract to pay him 1.25 mil in the 3rd season so I'm sure they have a plan for it.
They will have tons of room

Still doesn't explain how they have room right now. I don't doubt that they can fit Tavares in, somehow, if they really want. But everything I see shows that they have like 0 room as it is right now, correct?

Yes I'm talking about as a UFA next summer. Sorry miss understood. No way Toronto gives assets in a trade unless it centres around JVR and his salary. But personally I think that deal is going to be him sent to Carolina

Ya, I'm sure JVR will be gone at some point. Sucks, he's a good player. But Leafs are in position to be a real force here sooner, rather than later.

I think with Carolina having 5 good dmen, them wanting more scoring and his brother playing there makes it possible. I want Faulk back but that might be unlikely

Faulk is a monster. But ya, they are stocked with great young d-men. That would be interesting. .

Yeah, if Tavares is moved it will be in a creative deal late in the year. By then his effective cap hit will be easy to fit in as long as TO moves someone like Bozak out.

Just to clarify, the Leafs have only used a little over 3 million of the 10.5 million dollars worth of LTIR they can use up. So effectively they still have 7 million in cap space but they'll want to leave at least half of that for bonuses paid on entry level deals.

ya thats why its funny to listen to the media try to spin a bad problem idea about it. But the fact is you cant even use the LTIR space unless your close to it, so theres no reason not to spend for them right now

Leafs in the 2018-19 season if they signed Tavares for 8.5 mil which is the same as Stamkos ( i think he would do it to try and win a cup and he would make more money off endorsements here than anyone ever)
Still 11 space left with a 23 man roster and another 7 mil off the cap the following year to pay for Matthews and Marner, which I think is plenty
