Pro & Cons of T.S.B.

My dealership has agreed (without question) to change out the real leaf springs in my Tacoma, (and it sounded like this included new shocks?) and I was wondering if there is a down side to this service? as a rule I never go off road, about off road as I get is farm roads,unimproved roads (dirt) farm fields etc, but I do pull a trailer once in awhile and the first time pulling it with (1) MC in the trailer I did notice a pretty good sag, and this is what peaked my interest in getting this done, But after thinking about it I started to wonder, Is there a downside to this? None that I found. It's a truck and should do the things trucks do, like towing and hauling loads. A little stiffer suspension is the tradeoff if there is one.

Edit - You would be wise to check their work after. Many have reported receiving the same 3 leaf springs after only having to do the work twice.

 

I agree, there is no downside unless the stiffer ride bothers you. Without the tsb 1@ bags of mulch make you sag, that shouldn't happen.

 

3yrs later, all good.

One downside, had adjust headlights up 2 clicks.

 

Harder ride? Sheesh. It still rides like a car. Not even as harsh as my '96 Tacoma was. Rode in a Ford F-350 the other day and almost lost all my fillings.

 

i had mine done and love it. slightly stiffer but wont sag anymore like a little bitch s-10

 

Man its worth it, the ride does differ a little, but you will be able to use the truck as it was intended to be used. I couldnt get off a smooth highway in mine before I had it done, and off-roading forget it. Had the swap, got a TRD suspension put on for free. I say go for it, make sure that if you have ever gone into the dealership with the complaint of the suspension, you keep that paper. I was way out of warranty, 75K, when I found out about the TSB on here. I called the dealership and after a long heated discussion and the proof I went in at 15K, they fixed it. No problems since then, well other than I want a lift, and cant decide which one...

 

Hi Folks,

Someone here linked the TSB for this suspension fix. Upon review of the .pdf
it stated my 09 (non-TRD) 4x4 doesn't require the change.

Mine has 3 leafs and what look like a different shock?...Has this issue been fixed with better bump stops and the new shocks...
the shocks are black, so i guess not Bilsteins?

I've carried maybe 500lbs in the back without any noticeable sag?

Havent had a trailer on it yet though?

The part numbers are stamped on each spring. Compare yours to the TSB but for sure, they're 3 leafs.

OTOH, if you don't need them leave them be. LOTS of these trucks are being used with 3 leafs.

 

I only noticed a slightly perceptible difference in the ride post-TSB. After the first drive, I couldn't tell anymore.

I LOVE being able to use my truck as intended, towing with a load in a bed, without sag.

 

No cons whatsoever in getting the rear spring TSB done. It still rides like a car compared to my old 2000 Tundra.

...upon a reread of the TSB, it states do not replace the shocks
or bump stops. So i guess that would mean to only replace/add the additional leaf?

Funny, only my right side leafs PN's are mentioned on the TSB under
the column OFP...what does OFP mean?

In the description the TSB states:

'Op code' -' Description'- 'OFP'
SU7003 - RT Spring Assy. (Both Sides) - 48210-04550

I haven't read the updated one but unless your truck is TRD, you should get shocks too. TRD trucks just get springs as they already have the Bilsteins...unless it changed.

OP code = Operation Code?

OFP = NFC (no f*cking clue!)

Maybe someone else knows.

 

09+ don't get the new shocks, our shocks are different from the base model shocks for 05-08

I have contacted 3 different dealers here in the Atlanta area, they all told me they would need to inspect it first. I guess I will need to load up some sand bags and waste a day for them to tell me "Ok"...........Don't understand why they need to look if they have a TSB on it.

Wish I could find a "Fairy God Mother" dealership that would just tell me they would order the parts and call me when they come in.

Don't you know anyone with a wood pile ?

 

Wood would certainly weigh it down, I got some yesterday and hit the bump stops coming home. I think getting weighted bags of sand from Home Depot would be easier to prove how much weight is in the bed.

 

I got mine suspension TSB done a week ago. Don't notice much difference in the ride. I need to use it as a truck now and then, so definitely wanted to get it done. I had about 450# in it to test it and bottomed out over speed bumps in our neighborhood. Fortunately no problems getting dealer to do the work. Bed doesn't have as much spring now, can hold the weight fine.

 

Get em'. Mine were not really noticeably stiffer, but the truck looks better and handles loads better. I am very happy.
