Depends on what you are referring to!

 

The doors, and I believe there's speakers by the rear jump seats.

 

I'm thinking the 13yr old speakers are tired.and with new technology, no reason to listen to distorted tunes

 

Unfortunately your speaker locations won't allow for anything larger than a 5x7 unless you have a plasma cutter as well as welding/fiberglassing skills and are willing to use them! Just kidding however you would really need to add a subwoofer in your case to get more bass.

 

I like this option if possible. take the door panels off, pop new speakers in, enjoy better sound!

 

I do have plug n play speaker harnesses now however for optimum sound it is not as simple as "plug n play" in the front due to how Toyota wired the harness between the 6x9 and "tweeter" (actually a "mini midrange" that plays down to about 400 hz if I remember correctly) since you lose power at the 6x9 if you disconnect the tweeter. You could just replace the 6x9 in the front door and leave the factory tweeter connected however that would not give you optimum sound IMO. If you want to replace the 6x9 and tweeter up front with a component system consisting of a 6x9 and tweeter you would need to cut the black/red wires at the factory tweeter and run those to the input on the new 6x9 while leaving the plug connected. Then you would just connect the new tweeter to the existing terminals on the new 6x9. This is very easy to do in the 2nd generation since the tweeter is in the door with the mid however in the 3rd generation it is a little more difficult since you would need to run 2 new wires between the dash tweeter and door.

 

"Decent" is a very subjective word however when done "properly" there is a significant improvement in sound IMO. You do have to seal up the new adapter to the inside of the door panel like the factory did to avoid back wave cancellation (easy to do with a weatherstripping from any hardware store) and I would at minimum recommend use a sound deadener "door kit" to deaden around the speaker mounting location.

All gear will be sent back to me to verify contents and warranty will be intact. The enclosure amp rack is already completed and ready to go so no waiting on that! (I still have it in my possession)
