Hard shift into overdrive

Experiencing a hard shift into overdrive and the truck seems to vibrate like a cell phone once shifted. Anybody know what the issue could be? All other gears shift fine.

 

Whatta you mean by 'overdrive'??

You have an automatic..... Do you have it in *D* or are you manually shifting the transmission?

When does it happen?

 

Sorry, I meant when I turn overdrive off. The button on the side of the shifter.

 

Does it only happen when *dis-*engaging the O/D? Or does it also happen when engaging O/D?

Does it happen all the time, or just under certain conditions (e.g., certain speeds)?

 

So I'm driving down the interstate, go up a hill and want a little extra "umph" probably going 65-70. So I turn OD off, and when the down shift happens, its a rough shift.

 

What's your rpm's before turning O/D off? What's your rpm's after turning the O/D off?

 

Not really sure, I can check on my way home. Does that make a difference?

 

Well... my thoughts are.... if the rpm range between the two is too large, could be the reason for your issues.

Does it rev pretty high when you take the O/D off?

I don't have experience with a tacoma O/D but I've had it on a Dodge Ram and had it off/on while towing. Hard to explain, but when you turn O/D on/off is like the transmission is shifting (so to speak). It might be normal , but again....I don't know for sure as I don't have experience with tacomas.

When was the last time you had the transmission serviced? (oil changed, flushed, etc)

 

it shifts from 2.1k to 3k. The truck only has 56k on it and the trans fluid was changed at 30k. I've noticed now that it doesn't do it all the time.
