When I was just a teenager, I had the same problem and over compensated by coming on too strong in an effort to quit being bashful. Then a friend suggested I just be myself. Found the girls liked me much better and more of them.

You are not giving yourself enough credit. You have so much to offer with a home, well paying job, nice looking guy in good shape, stop holding yourself back. If you just stand still for a few minutes the girls will mob you.

And, you are on to something about finding girls with the qualities and standards you desire at church or church functions. Of course some of your "friends" will chide you about that. Possibly the same ones who will need a shoulder to cry on when they are divorced down the road after marrying that red hot chick from the bar.

I know my type is the kind of girl I would meet at church, but there are lots of personal issues keeping me from church right now that I can't seem to solve.

Hm. Possibly. I'm looking at another route, without a garage or good way to lift it up this is just too much for me right now, and it will be years until I have a good way for it. I don't like having to have someone else every time to put it on or off.
