I still need to mod my fan to take USB or 12v... but the fan is great to have here in hot ass Texas. Like I told my GF on the last camp, "Its better than nothing"

The online reviews were pretty hit/miss, so I'll report back how well it works out.

Anyone with a CVT Rainier or similar sized RTT (6' x 8' + overhang) have the annex walls they never use and would be interested in selling to me?

52055769962__B64EDE31-F861-46C1-8C2D-EB4FB7B9A362.jpg Switched to rear opening to provide shelter for my camp kitchen. I wish my bed rack was slightly higher, I have to duck a little. However, I'm a big fan of having the "2nd" door facing forward. With the height of the bed rack, it made it difficult to insert the spring rods to hold the window covers open. They contacted the cab a little.IMG_2050.jpg

I'm new to the RTT game, and just started looking.

Is there any brand that is considered "better" than others, or ones to avoid?
    Any good comparison reviews?

Thanks, and I'll get back to reading this thread.

CVT, Tepui and ARB seem to be the most popular. Search and read this thread for lots of good info...

ARB was maybe the first player in the game. The first group after that probably includes CVT and Tepui. More recently I'm seeing some new names like Smittybilt. I CAN say that CVT has fantastic service as I've had to interact with them multiple times. Dont know about the others. In the pics they all do look similar but i cant speak to quality comparison.

right - but we're not all using the same racks...so the critical dimension is from tent to cab?
my tent is pretty close to the glass...like 2" - 3"...just enough space to get your hand back there to stuff the tent in while folding up...
with my (rci) rack, i could move it rearward only about an inch for more clearance to the cab, but the rail end plugs would not fit...
& riz_atx....you're a genius...just bungee that side of the window flap to something!...anything!
    cheers, dave

Which way did you originally have it facing? Im driver side opening and I'm thinking about switching to rear opening.

I really like the idea of rear opening after seeing the Habitat camper, but at nearly $10k, it's way out of most people's budget.

I like that alot. I think my next rack with be full height. The main reason I went mid height was for the mileage concerns of dd'ing with a giant wind block on my truck. Do you find that the underside of the tent by the kitchen gets gross from cooking regularly or not a concern?

I am interested to hear about this too since I like the overhang but am worried about smoke and head room, etc. with a CBI bedrack.

I wish I could do this but we have many overhead trees on the trials in the mountains that would require a lot of chain saw work.

Build a wind fairing- it doubles as a branch deflector for the RTT. :D

It would need to be a tree deflector. Many of the trials I do are cleared for OHV and they leave the higher trees in place across the trail. I fit under these now but with the RTT up high it would be no joy.

Got the call last night that my new CVT hard shell has arrived to the warehouse! Shipping out today, should be here early next week!

In other news, if anyone is SoCal is interested, I have my CVT Mt. Shasta Extended (with the big-ass 7'x7' annex), additional sleeping pad and the channel that allows you to attach the annex without removing the cover available or sale. $1100 firm

Went off the driver side, but since I'm not sold on the annex yet, went rear opening. Totally happier with that setup.
