Watching TFL truck videos and I ran across this spy video of the new Ford Ranger. Looks very European, def not my style if its styled like the ones overseas, which the shape and features look like it. Also guess what folks! It hunts for gears also, least the guy says it does in the second video. I know the one being reviewed is a European model, I am sure however that it will be identical. Anyhow, enjoy!!

I extremely doubt we get the same powertrain as the euro version. I'm also willing to bet thats a mule body. Just like our trucks (3rd gen mule was a 2nd gen), they slap components, drivetrain, etc on current platforms for testing. Even so it dosent look all that bad, no Taco, but still.

I'd rather take an overseas Ranger. It's the only model to truly give the international Hilux a run for its money. A vehicle built that well seems promising.

The first one was spotted in Colorado and the second one is a EU version so I'm only gonna watch the first video.

Anyways the prototype just looks like a First Gen Tundra with black Second Gen Tacoma OR wheels. Doesn't look too bad but it's hard to tell with all the camo. It's exciting to see though. Toyota needs that competition and the Rangers gonna be a hit no doubt.

The Navara is a proper competitor, seems to be quite well regarded in Australia anyway. L

Like I said this is likely a mule, see attached current global ranger pic (front, hoodline, etc. same as spy video), and we will see something different.

I don't know Ford's been keeping the sheet metal the same on their global platform cars like the focus and fiesta. I don't think it'll be much different.

It'll be good though for competition here in the States

How much does the Tacoma share with the Hilux? Seems like the Ranger will have better scale economies (and thus cheaper) because it's a global platform while the Tacoma is a North American model.

Good point. The Tacoma's optional 2TR-FE 4banger is shared with the international Hilux, as well as the Hiace van and other international commercial fleet stuff.

You may have noticed the deep price cut when you take a 4 cylinder, on the order of like $5,000 depending on cab and options...

As cool of a theoretical idea having an international Ranger is, I can't see myself being swayed by Ford though; their QC really has gone in the shitter recently. My friend bought a Fiesta with the 1.0L ecoboost 3 cylinder- it is on its second A/C compressor and its third HVAC blower motor. My mom's Escape had a howling diff which exploded at ~50,000 miles. About the only recent Ford product that hasn't shit the bed (at least belonging to people I know) is the Shelby GT500 my dad bought, but he babies it and takes such insanely good care of it.

Hmm, interesting. I'm not in the market, planning to have my Taco a loooong time, but good for Ford if it to be made in USA!!

Ecoboost, no thanks those pricey turbos are expensive when they break and simple work becomes a pain in the ass when the motor is halfway under the firewall. I love that toyota still has the motor where it belongs and where you can work on it
