    Helloiamnotdead

    Here's what I've done recently :D
    • Replaced my shifter bushings
    • Replaced my carrier bearing
Apparently 1st gen autos had bushings in the shifter, who knew? I replaced mine with some off of Amazon, and I'd say they're well worth it. They make the shifter feel much better and tighter, giving it a very heavy detent that makes it feel like it's actually in gear.

You can find them here: https://goo.gl/WU6H11

    IMG_20170617_191741572.jpg
Stock ones WERE a hard plastic from what I've read^
As you can see mine have degenerated

    New bushings

    Reassembled
    IMG_20170617_200116725.jpg

New carrier bearing. Old one was OEM I think and had a cracked boot, dried grease and clicked. No good. Old one had tons of play, about 1-1.5" and the new one is much tighter at about half an inch of play.

After tightening everything up (shifter and carrier) I've come to find my transmission mount/bushing needs replacing. I found this when I tried leaving a red light in a swift fashion and my truck decided to shift itself into neutral lol...not supposed to happen. So thats immediately next :D

Good find. I just shared your post with a friend having a similar shifter issue.

Cool, hopefully he finds it useful. I can do a tutorial if need be, I had some issues with the shifter button in particular getting out of calibration (which i guess is possible lol) and that took forever to figure out. :D

I ordered a lower intake plenum for a 5vz, for testing purposes :D

I didn't wanna mention this too soon, as to not let anybody down, because this project may be a flop. However I'm going to attempt to make a performance intake manifold for our trucks.

Again I don't wanna get someone's hopes up, because this may not work out in my favor, but the current plan is for a turbo manifold (potentially an N/A one too), reasonably priced, that moves the throttle body away from the downpipe, and hopefully flows better than stock.

I'm putting this out there now to see who may be interested. The lower intake is in the mail as I type. Until then I'm doing some research into custom manifolds, runner length, plenum volume and stuff like that.

    I'll keep updating :D

Risk of failure should never be a limiting factor. Then nothing would ever get accomplished. Forge away Brice.

So my kick-down cable is stuck in the wide-open-throttle position for some reason, not sure why.
I can remove it from the trans without dropping the pan, so I think I'm gonna try that first to see what the issue is.

No, They don't connect in any way as far as I know. It may be due to me messing up the shift kit, but I also read that the cable goes bad after awhile (or is prone to going bad I guess)

Not real sure yet, gonna pull it off today.

@Torspd Do you know anywhere that does machining work? I figure you've been into your motor so many times that you may know somewhere :D
EDIT:Found a guy to do it tomorrow, hopefully. Any info is still appreciated though :D

If you ask nicely and don't mind shipping, LCe could possibly be called up and they may build it. They use to sell a built 3.4 about 4 years ago

I may give em a call and see what they would charge. Something local is better since I may build and sell a few of these if they work.

Yeah, that's what I hear. I wonder why they stopped...They also used to make cams apparently but that stopped soon after it began. People say that the 5vz-fe wont benefit from cams but Im pretty sure all engines benefit from cams...must've been lack of interest.

Just not the demand on the 6 cylinder.

I'll ask more questions tomorrow when I am up and about.

Sea to sky (if I remember right) use to make cams too. I do believe both LCe and them used colt cams for the grinds. I bet they still have the specs to make a set.
As for benefit I'm sure of it. The engine runs out of steam in the higher rpms. More aggressive cams could help move the power band up with maybe a little sacrifice down low
