What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Actually in 2004, Toyota offered Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) as an option on Tacomas. It was only for that last year and it was very rare at that. Rarest 1st gen option I know of.

Going to stick them in and hope for the best or try to seal them better?

I'm torn between biting the bullet for an OEM set it buying cheapos and resealing them. I have horrible luck with leaking housings.

yup. the vsv tacos came with bigger front brakes if your lucky enough to find one.

 

Find one? Hell I've never even seen one. Only seen a photo of the VSC light in cab once. I'd love to see it IRL.

 

I wonder if it was more common on the 4Runner.

I turned around right here because it was getting dark and the trail look shittty farther up. But the picture won't load of that.

 

From my quick research, yeah. Must more documentation about it and even methods of disabling it. There isn't much to read about 1st gen Taco VSC at all.

 

I'm assuming a 4x4 manual trans and transfer case from a 4Runner with a 3.4 would be the same as a Tacoma's yeah?

 

2004 was an odd ball year. They did fly by wire throttle that year too. Some did come with stability control..aka...ATRAC! it was the precursor for the 2nd gen tacos and had been in 3rd gen 4runners since 2000.

2004 tacos had bigger disc brakes for that reason. But only some.

Easest thing to do it to just pop yours off and measure. Pretty straight forward unless you know you have the ATRAC.

Wasn't it something like '04 PreRunner DC V6 got VSC and V6 4x4 models got A-TRAC? Certainly could be wrong, just what I recall reading. But there isn't a lot of readily available documentation.

Yeah 2004 got throttle by wire but with a mechanical backup cable as well.
