So i really want to build a trailer to use for a base camp, so i can keep my RTT on it, and store all my camping gear. I got the idea for an enclosed trailer this past 4th of july weekend when i was out at barnwell ohv...
So then i started googling and then that is when it all went to shit....
So now i want to get an enclosed trailer and convert the front to be a small kitchen with a sink, fridge, and microwave that will run off a generator/solar, and a few cabinets for storage.
This one is larger than i want but the front is what i would like to do, just as an idea. I would put some storage up on the walls to hold camping gear and such. i would like to keep the middle open so that i can use it to carry my dirt bike, or if i need it to move or store large items.
I think this is about the size i would like....
Below is an image i saw where some one had done what im talking about, but the trailer is a little on the small side. A small trailer would be nice to help save on weight and gas mileage!
    DSC_0494_zpsoanihxg3_da75721c05bf493547feb4091269502485e0d5d2.jpg
Here is one a little larger, i might be able to get a fridge and mircowave in there but i dont know if its big enough for my dirt bike also...

I like the idea of trailers, do they hinder where you can go? Base camp is great but what about the BB trip you guys did, would a trailer work for a trip like that?

Def recommend 3 leaf if you go that route. You might be able to leave in the overload of the stock leaf with a 3 leaf, but I'd ask a vendor.

Clearance is one thing that i am concerned about, another is that i would like the trailer axle hubs to patch the tacoma's. That way i can have a spare tire that can be used on the truck or trailer in the event of a flat tire.

I think that i could have taken one of these trailers everywhere we went in Big Bend, but i dont think that the park rangers would have liked it very much.

The trailer would be used as a base camp, i will put the tent on the truck for overlanding trips.

I really want to! I am trying to save my money and i am searching craigslist for a good deal on a trailer. Also need to start saving my money for the conversion! I already have a small fridge that i can retrofit into the trailer!

I may start looking for a tear drop trailer around here that I can upgrade. Wanting something that can sleep a queen bed in now and then expand to a RTT on top as well.

I am not concerned with sleeping in it, i just want to have a place to store my camping gear primarily, and i could do that with a smaller trailer. I would like to get something larger that can also carry my dirt bike as a feature. The last thing that would get finished would be the "kitchen" conversion. I think that an AC would be nice to have also but i think that it would just entice me to sleep in the trailer instead of using the RTT i spent so much money on!

Also as an FYI this would be a budget build trailer, meaning everything in this build would be used/repurposed materials.

I hear ya, I was trying to decide between a trailer just for a RTT or something like a tear drop that could hold the kitchen stuff and also sleep inside of along with storing gear and such. Then be able to add the option later on for a RTT.

Trying to find one that I like and would work.

But then again, if I end up finding or getting a 4runner.... then that could be used for the RTT anyways.

I'm really digging this idea. If done right it could be really awesome and useful
