The only way I'd ever part with my 2nd gen is if Toyota brought out a diesel option in the 3rd gen. Otherwise I'm keeping my 2nd gen until the wheels fall off. All the bells and whistles of the 3rd gen are nice but they are not enough polish for the terd engine.

Not to pile on, but a diesel with a proper manual is the ONLY way Yota is going to get me out of my 2nd Gen and into a 3rd Gen (3.5 + front end kills it for me). I would buy a Hilux diesel if offered in the US, however I don't see it happening with the whole chicken tax and cannibalizing sales.

I would not doubt it. The Colorado can pull more, tows better, has 4 wheel disc brakes, and a better interior.

FYI.... if you combine the sales of the GMC and the Chevy colorado.... it still doesnt add up to 3rd gen tacoma sales.

Hilux aint ever coming to the states, it would be nice to have a truck with a factory e locker front option, and boxed frame. Diesel in a lil truck like ours unless its getting 30+mpg is pointless, as the extra cost associated with it wont be offset by gas savings for a LOOONG time. I also like not having to plug my truck in to power to keep her warm so she will start when its 0*f out at the ski resort.

I'm 100% the truck you are describing does exist and is not the Hilux but rather the Colorado ZR2.

I'm currently on vacation in Colombia and there are Hiluxs all over the place here. Not a fan of the styling at all. Make the Tacoma with a diesel option sales are gonna skyrocket

I parked next to a Mexican Hilux, at Coco's Corner, last September. Tacomas and Hilux trucks are in Baja, but I heard the Hilux is not available with four-wheel drive, in Mexico.

Dunno, man. I can understand the Toyota vs GM dependability or resale debate, but I can't see how that ZR2 (or any new Colorado) is a pile of sh!t ona test drive. There is nothing outstanding about a 2nd or 3rd gen either, upon a test drive. Being the owner of a 2nd-gen tacoma and having taken a test drive in both a 3rd gen Taco and '16 Z71 Colorado, I can't think of 1 think that the Colorado would feel like garbage and a Taco is far superior? Both trucks are pretty nice and have things that they do better than the other. And high-end Denalis are nice, as far as I can see. Not to change the topic, just seems like you are a general GM hater based on emotion from a past experience, rather than a realistic perspective.

I have been to Bogota a couple times, and they are all over there. Most everything seemed like it was diesel too.

Go test drive a mid range ford f150 / f250 then drive GM's highest end products.... GM's products dont hold a candle on the fit n finish and feel inside or driving feel.

As far as my past experience.... yes, absolutely littered with GM's faulty product. Between a full tranmission / tcase rebuild, tons of electrical issues, radiators blowing up (gotta love dexcool), front steering components wearing at rates way faster than they should.... yeah nope you could say its not been a fun road with them. All of the issues mentioned were ALL issues GM KNOWINGLY knew and had TSB's but were not covered by GM under any recall.

And it wasnt just my truck, 3 other gm trucks within my circle of friends (the only other guys that had gm trucks) all had very similar and documented known issues by chevy.

You can have you gm midsize twins.... you couldnt give me one for free.

My stepdad gets a new F150 every year and he has a '17 F150 FX4. It's sick, no doubt. But when I was inside our neighbors '16 GMC Denali there is nothing about it that was underwhelming, from what I could see. It was a nice vehicle, no way around it.

As far as the new twins, the powertrain was for sure better-feeling than the 3rd gen taco. The inside was nice, the truck felt good driving. The new ZR2 I'm sure would be even better and fun to drive. The new Taco is cool too. Hell, I love my 2nd-gen even with it's plain jane dash and lack of gadgets etc. That's fine with me. But I just can't sit here and say that ZR2 is garbage. Gotta give credit where it is due. No need to defend Toyota, as everyone on this board has one and we have our reason's for choosing them. I plan on running with Toyota products in the future as well. I have also had some bad GMs in the past, and also some very good ones. So I know where you are coming from. But I just think it sounded like you had frustration with the brand (understandable) but first impression of their new vehicles is still pretty sweet, I think, that's all.

Oh dont get me wrong, on paper and in pictures they look great. Just after the very bad taste in my mouth and better feeling options TO ME, i wont ever buy one. Hell i went to trade in my chevy truck with 120k miles on it to the same dealer i bought it from to buy a new one from them and they were like.... yeah we dont take american made vehicle trade ins with over 100k miles..... are you shitting me!!!

Yes, I run a lot of highway and have gotten screwed trying to trade in a GM with over 100k as well. It is brutal. That is 1 nice thing about Toyota. At least you can rack up miles and there is enough confidence with buyers / dealers that you can get something back out of it.

That was why I was wondering if Toyota even thought of somehow bringing a Hilux or Diesel option on the Taco, since it might be popular. I personally don't see the need, as I don't see it as saving any money, plus I would only want a diesel truck to haul something , like a big trailer etc. So for that, most would get the full-size trucks anyway, I would think?

Any new vehicle will give you that first impression of how great and "better" it is over the vehicle you're currently driving. Can you rely on a COLORADO or any GM product in the long run?

Toyota's have been in my family for over 30 years, I've only heard of one 4runner that my dad had with major issues but only because the previous neglected it.

I don't care what anybody says on how their quality has improved over the years. I still think they're garbage, imo.
