If you are going to wait till 2018 I'd definitely wait to see the new Ranger and all of the other manufactures trucks...

All the Tacomas have under powered engine/transmission issues. Even Toyota will tell you that's how they are designed...

I'm not talking about the rear end or occasional other problem or recall. I'm talking about the common problem of the engine/transmission junk...

Do not let the fan boys convince you their truck is the exception to the rule.

Edit: I will admit you probably will become complacent with it as long as you don't drive any other vehicle.

I test drove a bunch Toyotas along with other cars to get a feel for how the Taco fits in experience wise before I committed to the Pro I have now.

I originally wanted to wait for 18' if possible and see if there would be 4 wheel disc on the Taco, but when I saw that awful front sensor thing for the new TSS, then tried it, all it adds is extra things to break and very little utility.

The backup warning thing sensed the change in grade from the driveway to the road as a vechile and slammed on the brakes while backing out.

If you are "too close" and you drive in rush hour traffic, you are. You can't keep it happy. If you stay back to keep it happy, there is more than enough room for someone to cut in front of you. So they will. Then you back off and someone else does it.

So I decided I didn't want all that BS and ordeeed a Pro. Hoping it's gonna last me year and years. I drive about 100 miles a day. I can't have all that crap.

Adaptive cruise and other sensor stuff sounds like a nightmare to me. I like to drive, and take pride in keeping safe buffers while optimizing smoothness & forward motion down the trail.
Then again, I'm a lousy passenger on wheels, in air or sea but happy as a clam behind the helm.

We are heading into the golden season for purchasing leftover year vehicles. Also, I'm always concerned about buying the first ones in a model year. I feel those rolling down the line after New Years are a safer bet for bugs. I probably would have waited another month or two before pulling the trigger on a '17, but my daughter came to visit with her fiancee and we organized a wedding, which was a great moment and an excuse to rent a boat for the day. Also, the Gen2 '12 made a perfect wedding present, properly shipped to the mainland where they just picked her up for a run to her new home in Albuquerque. When I checked our one dealer on island for Gen3 OR stock a few weeks ago, they had one OR in quicksand that was set up about right for me. As I got down to finalizing the deal, I noticed that the tag on the keys had a note on it "damaged right fender". I went out and looked; the right fender looked fine except for a minuscule amount of orange peel, like the panel had been sprayed, but was really difficult to tell from a couple of feet away. Dealer denied any knowledge, and I was pissed that they were not disclosing. I put things on hold for a couple of days, then they called and said that distributors records showed it had been scratched on Oahu, and since it was less than a $500 repair they didn't know or have to disclose. Not cool.
In the end I wanted that truck, not to wait for another to come in, so they apologized profusely & discounted the sales price another $500 (I was already doing pretty well, it's the 5th truck we've bought there) and they gave me a 10 year top tier 75k authorized warranty for 2 grand, which seemed like a good deal.

This! My '17 was made in July'16, definitely in the early runs of the 17s and I've had so many problems. Most of them clearly just assembly and QA issues that it seems folks who bought 17s built after new years have indeed experienced less issues. My lesson learned. Next time I'll buy a truck that was built several months after the production started...

Go buy you a '17 built recently and love it. If you have issues, you always have the madhouse here to help. My truck drives awesome now. If new ones coming off the line drive like mine does now, you'll be happy.

Might as well wait and see if the are doing a new tune or adding anything functional to the 2018.

Toyota announced that the 2018 Camry is signalling a new direction for the Company.

The 2018 Camry puts down 300+hp, so this is a bold and historical moment for the company. Hopefully, it will trickle down to other products

That would cool but Toyota is slow about doing anything.

Exactly, they still have not even corrected the Howling Rear Diff let alone add new features.
