Why are RTT's so expensive?

This RTT thread has come detached rolling down the highway and landed squarely in the ditch.

OP I understand and am with you on your overpriced RTT's. If I had the disposal income of a Colombian Drug Lord I too would have one. My Truck would be built to the hilt with every new trick and toy but for it remains Stock. I camp on the ground.

No joke. On an expedition down the Colorado river, all liquid waste goes into the river, all solid waste goes into a can to be taken out. This is per National Park Service rules. It is a desert environment and the ecosystem on dry land is much more fragile than the ecosystem in the river. The river itself is already greatly impacted by the dams above and below the Grand Canyon.

I tried to look up the park service rules, but couldn't find them quickly. I did find several 'rafting grand canyon blogs' where they talk about it.

Here is one that will explain it:
    https://www.mygrandcanyonpark.com/things-to-do/rafting-dos-and-donts

"At night, you have to walk down to the river to urinate. So, you may want to consider bringing a pee bottle along. I know, "Gross". But it's really not bad. I personally don't like crawling out of my sleeping bag and blundering my way down to the waterline, blind without my contact lens, to pee into the river. Inevitably, I step in the water and end up with sandy feet in bed. Much better to urinate in a bottle bedside, and dump the contents into the river the next morning."

An another (that is more descriptive):
    http://www.bobfoote.com/bob/trips/granddetails.htm
'Bathroom – Each evening we will set up a toilet. There is a "day can" for emergencies during the day but it's best to use the facilities in the evening and morning while we are at camp. Peeing is ONLY done in the river. We do not pee anywhere on shore (dry sand) or in the toilet. If everyone did their business away from the river, there isn't enough rain to wash it away and the campsites would smell like an outhouse... Also, if we pee in the toilet, we would have to bring another raft just to haul it all out. So pee the river.'

So...in just about any other environment...you are correct. In the Grand Canyon on a multi-day self support trip (raft supported in my case), you pee in the water. You crap in a can, and you take the can out with you. All garbage goes in a different can, and all food scraps get strained, and then put in a can.

There expensive because people want them even tho most use them a couple of times if that then a year or two later sell them for a few hundred dollar loss! Buy used there's always a big supply :).

I have had several............I love mine. Yes they are expensive, but I use mine a lot. Looking at options now of how I am going to mount it on the new truck. Here is a pic of one of my old ones on my trailer and the new one I have now.................

put it on the hammock then my cold bag then me

I am talking about carrying everything I need in a backpack for 2-4 weeks and
boiling snow/filter for water. no way can I carry anything big, I have to have room for food
if you are drinking from it you are already filtering/uv/or purifying it

if you are already doing that, it doesn't matter if you crap in the water, it's safe

so....non issue. if you can drink straight from a river, not process the water, and not get sick, hats off to ya.

i get that and I've done the same. maybe not as long of a trip but still carried everything in.
I'm talking a small piece of reflectix only 2-3ft wide and then 5-6ft long and fold it up flat. it just sits at the back of the pack against my back asically and no problems.

This might cause a :crapstorm: but I see people driving around town with the RTT even if they're not going camping is it a badge of honor? Or just lazy to take it off and store it
