Assuming that the cooling system is functioning properly, the ECU is controlling the ignition timing properly and you are using the correct octane fuel, that typically happens for 2 reasons, both related to inadequate fueling.

    1) reduced injector performance

    2) carboned up combustion chamber, which can artifically raise the compression in that cylinder and absorb fuel, not allowing it to detonate properly, creating a 'fake' lean condition.

    3) a combination of 1 and 2.

Techron and Redline typically are used in the fuel, and focus on injector clean up, but will aid in decarboniztion of the top end. Maybe completely if it's a light case. So a big bottle in a tank, with the tank run to almost empty, say before each oil change, is a reasonable preventative.

If the vehicle already has some serious carbon deposits (which can occur for a few reasons) Seafoam becomes a better choice, but by being drawn in via the intake system, not through the fuel system. A bit tricky to administer to stay out of a 'liquid' condition, and will vary in process by vehicle type. But effective when needed.

agree it won't increase it over a healthy motor performance.

"restore" may be a better choice of word if performance / mpg have deteriorated based on conditions the cleaner can correct.

I treat my truck very well, on top of all maintenance items. i did the seafoam through the throttle body and didn't see much of a result except for a shit ton of white smoke out of the tailpipe. I did two treatments with Techron poured into the tank and results were noticeable.

Have you considered an Italian tune up?

Good suggestion. I do a half ass Italian tune up from time to time but will do a real one just prior to my next oil change.

I've used both Techron and Seafoam for years on all my vehicles, they are both good. I prefer Techron, I wait until Wal-Mart has it on sale. Both good for cleaning the fuel injectors, but don't expect too much as far as cleaning carbon build up in combustion chambers or the top of the pistons.

That sounds like horse shit to me. Where did you get that from? Do you have an official link to that data?

If a fuel treatment is effecting the oil there are bigger problems with the engine than just dirty injectors.

First you cannot clean the inside of a fuel injector. They are laser welded together then molded and cannot be disassembled.

    Second
if the injector gets clogged you will have to replace it, anything larger than a few microns will cause it to stick either open or closed making the injector useless. NOTE: There is a 1 micron filter pressed into the inlet of an injector.

Third I will admit that is the external tip of the orifice plate ( the part that the gasoline squirts out of ) can get fouled by deposits. Fuel system cleaners can aid in cleaning these types of external deposits. Use a quality gasoline and you will not have to worry either way.

Fourth I would never dump seafoam or any other liquid down the intake or vacuum system of an engine. Not only could you hydrolock the engine, it could also cause excessive cylinder wear due to washing away to oil. Put it into the gas tank where it belongs.

Wrong. Even the slightest effort to look in on the subject will prove it, but I'm sure what you were told makes you right.

Blah blah blah.... it's a placebo..... makes you feel like it made a difference, but in essence your truck drives faster due to less weight in your wallet.

Never said you'd feel a difference, anyone that runs one fuel system cleaner through the tank and claims to "feel" anything different is probably just feeling a placebo. But they are good for the fuel system and will help keep it clean/running efficiently. It's a good thing to do especially on an older or higher mileage vehicle. They are not "snake oil".

    But you do you man.
