I dont want to sound like a noob, but if I bought something like this with GPS capabilities, will I need anything special to make the GPS work on my truck? Its a 2015 with the regular entune audio plus system that came with the truck? It has XM capabilities, just not entirely sure how it works.

It will need a GPS receiver mounted. Just the radio won't do the job. Some will come with the receiver, some wont. Personal experience with 2 in dash gps, Google maps on my phone is easier and does a better job. I had factory in my gc and now in my bmw. They both rely on factory updates via dvd, that come out every few years it seems. Until theyre completely abandoned and youll never find new roads. Google maps updates daily, shows traffic issues in real time etc. I still play with the factory when I'm bored but I use maps pretty often.

So theres no real point in your opinion to get a dash system with GPS capabilities. Whats the point of the shark fin then? XM? I've been looking at a few that pioneer has, but i think i like the idea of mounting an ipad or some kind of tablet that has maps (HEMA) to the passenger side and use that or let my passenger navigate with it.
