If we're really talking about best all around for a hobby welder, OXY acetylene with various torches/tips would be the way to go. That said I love TIG and used to use it almost exclusively, but MIG is way more useful for home/project stuff.

When you think about it Mig was really developed for production anything to save time and make more profit

I remember in my youth the idea of running any sort of wire in the field was looked at as Blasphemy by most companies Most of the welders of the era did not take to new processes very well Like anything else there was always exceptions .

I remember installing some machinery you know one of those contraptions that cost $100,000 back in the seventies .

I had to build a safety guard out of sheet metal using 1/8" 7018 is not my first choice This company had a state of the Art Maintenance Shop With a nice new Airco Mig welder

The Maintenance foreman said have at it .

The one of the other millwrights came along to help after making all the parts shears and breaks make it so easy .

Set up this strange machine with some scrap The other millwright had never seen a Mig machine used to say he was impressed was a under statement

That had to have been about 1976

One of those things I did Structural for a Year or two I thought my head would explode so very boring at least to me

I like to mix things up .

I love to Tig weld because the process is so pure because things have to be super clean

I see so many Mig welds with cold lap and most have no idea what the word means

Well I have a BBQ grill i need to dispose of and an old car body to cut up....and this guy popped up for a really good deal so figured I'd give it a shot.

Lotos LTP5000D Plasma Cutter. Supposedly does up to 1/2" but thats thicker than I ever think ill cut (1/4" is about the max i do). Didnt get to test it out tonight but everything feels pretty decent for being Chinese everything. Only thing I dont like right away is the ground cable is a bit short.

It wouldn't surprise me if it doesn't work out. Then again the reviews on it are actually pretty decent.

    This weeks winner!!

Company buys a Brand new Deltaweld 452 I can only guess one of the Summer help was told to install the feeder and assorted cables

These come from the Factory with warning stickers on the output studs which get removed at the customers location most times

The sticker was left on causing a loose and poor connection which as we all know now will cause heat !!

It melted the plastic insulation around the output stud.

No matter how you spin this it is not warranty !!
