I've heard good things about the Traegers but I've never eaten anything off one or used one.

I went with a gas grill and an electric smoker.

    1) I use the grill every meal we eat at home, sometimes cooking the sides and main course. The convenience of gas was just too much to pass up.
    2) I bought an electric smoker because I'd never smoked anything before and didn't want to waste a lot of food trying to regulate temp and time. Turns out it's not that hard, but now I'm hooked on my Masterbuilt smoker. Thing is awesome.

I'm happy keeping the grill and smoker separate. I'll always have a gas grille because of the convenience and I use it so often. I may one day switch to a stick or pellet burner for a smoker, but I really like my Masterbuilt.

I bought them each for $200. I think I got both at Lowe's when they were running different sales.

I think of it as a wok/flat grill/cast iron skillet all in one. There plenty of youtube vids showing what all you can do with them. I would cook the shit out of some hibachi if I had one.

I like the convenience of gas but the taste of charcoal. I've used a electric smoker a few times and they aren't bad. Masterbult is local here so we can buy direct from them. Maybe I should just go separate. idk..

Had an accident happen right in front of me today. Lexus SUV came out of a church into the middle lane then proceeded to move into the far left lane occupied by an Xterra and BAM! into the passenger side. Lexus crossed back over three lanes to the right and almost ran into a light pole.

    Bullet dodged.

If you get a Masterbuilt, don't get one with a window. They are worthless, because after the first smoke it gets covered in grease.

Also, I think you can get some sort of basket that holds briquettes or chips for propane grills that keep the convenience but add the flavor.
