Extended warranties are waste of money and that's how the dealers are getting more money from you.

I don't think the math works out for warranties. you spend$1200 now for an 8 year 100k warranty. But if you put $1200 into a mutual fund that got 10% interest for 8 years...you'd have ~$2600. That can absorb some pretty big repairs.

If you don't have any issues you've made $1400! I'd personally pay myself that money and take the risk.

Disclaimer: I have an extended warranty 8y125k because Toyota bloopsed so badly with this truck corporate gave me one for free. I would never have paid for this.

Edit: another downside is that they can turn into golden handcuffs. You have your nice cozy warranty so you don't want to modify your truck or fix a nagging issue yourself (looking at you howling differential)

Good point. Didn't think about sticking it in a mutual fund. I can wrench on my own truck but I can't fix BSM, moonroofs, exploding diffs, etc. Remeber more tech means more things that can go wrong that likely cost more than $1000 to repair. Though most won't need it there are a few that wish they had it. It's a gamble. There's plenty of threads like the guy having 27k miles and just outside 5 year powertrain paying out of pocket $2600. If you want to not worry about anything and have that warm fuzzy incase it serves a purpose. And duh to the knucklehead who said they are a profit center for dealers hence the wide range of pricing.

Yes the offer from 4 to 10 years and 65k to 125k miles. I'm still debating on which one to get.

Not sure how I feel about extended warranties.. I have a 370z and only bought it because the guy quoted me wrong (or so I think) and I made him honor his original quote. Instead of 2,500 I paid 1k. Anyways, even if I would've paid 2,500 it would paid its self off. I've had so many issues with that car, the dealership people know me by now and always ask "what is it this time" ..sad, I know.

But extended warranties are made for a profit which is what bothers me the most. They just don't loose, and if you finance it with the vehicle it'll come out to more than originally planned. The mutual fun idea is definitely a good one, or just setting some cash aside for maintenance/repairs. (I'm sure it'll just go to mods though lol). If you can get a good deal I think it's worth the peace of mind, otherwise I'd pass.
