I would like to do the deckplate mod on my 99 2.7 taco. all the pics that i have seen have a flat airbox. My problem is that my airbox has indentations (like waves) inside and outside. does anyone have any suggestions on how to install the deckplate w/ this type of airbox?

I used a 4" deck plate on my 2.7. Install it on the front of the box, facing forward. It will work fine. The edges of the deck plate will hang over the ends of the box about 1/8", but its no biggie.

Try a local boat shop, or boating supply

You should have searchbarred this, I've posted this picture in a couple older similiar threads, but here it is again:
3RZ air box with a hole for the 4" deckplate. It works.

I used Permatex Ultra Black RTV silicone gasket maker. Make sure to use a product that is "sensor safe", otherwise it will set off your check engine light.

This. But the deckplate has a short vertical edge perpendicular to the flat outside of it. In short, it fits nicely and covers the ripples just fine. I though the same thing you did when I first looked at my air box but as long as you use the sealant it should work quite nice.

Just make sure you line the screw holes up with the outer ripples, if possible.

You can also fit a 4" plate on the side on the right of this picture (facing engine). Did it Friday. Like another guy said, just pay attention to where you are drilling you holes with regards to the ripples. I was able to fit 5 out of 6 bolts using a Dremell. The 6th was too close to the filter, but it's plenty sturdy as is.

But I wouldn't put it there (engine side) because then you're getting slightly hotter air, which is less dense and translates to less power. Even though it's just a little less, I would do the deckplate mod on the front.

Thank you. I was just debating if i was gonna do it on the side or front. The side appeared to have a little more room but ill go with the front

Yeah, IMO it makes more sense to put it on the front, but I did look at putting it on the side as well when I was about to do the mod.

Don't feel too bad about that. My local marine store only had 1 white 4" plate, but I had to go back to school the next day so I bought it. It looks kind of ridiculous.

That's funny. At least no one can see it. Now you have a tuxedo style air box.

Wouldn't putting it on the side cause it to suck in hot engine air?
