There's a setting in entune to use cellular data for weather when HD radio is not available. Connect your phone through Bluetooth and turn on that setting and your weather app should work. Word of caution - this might use a lot of data if you don't have an unlimited data plan this option might get expensive.

 

I think Toyota did it that way all these years to give you extra space, but now I think they moved it to the console in a cost cutting move as there are less parts and the cables are shorter.

 

Autos slip until the TC locks up. I think it only locks in 5th. If it locks in 4th, I haven't noticed.

I understand, but with a center console already there, the ebrake handle makes more sense in the center.

This is my first vehicle with such controls so I had nothing to compare that to.

 

Actually one of the reasons that persuaded me to consider the 3rd gen over the 2nd gen, the new console mounted ebrake.

 

Although I have a 2nd gen, I imagine the concept is pretty much the same. I had my truck tethered to my phone for a good 2.5 years with no HD radio whatsoever and didn't notice a hit in my data use- as I would imagine weather and traffic aren't very data intensive. Now if you're using it for Pandora or the music apps, that is a different story.

 

The power is fine for most people. I know it's mind boggling for a few of you...

 

I turned on cellular data and took a 16 hour road trip and it used about 6 GB of data. I wasn't using anything but navigation and I think it gets traffic updates through HD radio or cellular data. It seemed really excessive to me so I turned cell data off and only get updates through HD radio now. I need to do more experimenting to determine why it used so much data.

 

That's really weird. I thought the map database was static, loaded from an SD card so you can pay out the ass at the dealer (or go on Amazon). My 2nd gen has a 3rd gen (2016) map database installed on it. My billing cycle just reset today, and last month Toyota Entune only used 2.52Mb of my cell data. Maybe you have a data leak elsewhere?

 

The power band and acceleration is one of the primary criticisms of this vehicle. Need I remind you of the hundreds of threads here on power complaints, wanting Turbos, tuning, etc. How about the reviews by major auto magazines and media sources? Again the throttle response and power band on this truck are widely recognized as being some of the most prominant flaws in the turdgen design.

 

Ask the silent majority (the 99% who own one, don't post here and could care less what the car rags say) what they think. Toyota did and got a resounding reply. That reply was EFFICIENCY! Do you guys think OEMs just design stuff for themselves? No. They ask their target demographic and design what will sell.
I have to lol at your reply man. If you are using what you read here as fact and as ownership consensus...
Take the leaking diff thread for example: Wanna know why those guys got their truck stuck at a dealership for a measly weep? Because they read that Toyota was GOING TO ANNOUNCE A RECALL instead of just waiting until Toyota actually mailed out a letter and had the parts ready. BTW I asked a regional rep about this situation. He said so far it is trending about 1% actually had any issue. If you listen to the guys here you would think it is 90% lol. Sure, the trend could creep up to maybe 2% but still... this forum is truly an alternate reality.

 

I wished the ebrake was a pedal and not the handle. Ebrake handles belong in a car but it's nothing to get feathers ruffled over.

 

Yes people complain about the power band, and yes there are threads about the power complaint. But hundreds? And even so, folks opinions? Just like the it gets better for some, where you disagree. There are some (HUNDREDS) of folks that say it does, so are you wrong?

Just imagine how many more folks would be enjoying the 3rd gen Tacoma if there wasn't this internet. But because of it we have forums for Enthusists and others to discuss stuff, and express opinions and major auto magazines' writers to gather stuff to write about.

Enthusists are not just your average auto operator, they take the expectations to the next level. As someone who thinks the Tacoma is a wise buy, and so far has proven to be, I continue to be satisfied with my purchase of the 3rd gen. Can't we just allow someone to feel or think they are happy with the way their 3rd gen drives, is there a need to continue to tell them they don't know shit?

Hold the two locks buttons down at the same time till it beeps and then it will unlock all doors at the same time

 

The man tranny is geared lower so more power but also higher rims at 70 so less gas mileage.
