Going to be getting some FJ steelies which means I need new rubber as my wheels are currently 16".

Decided I'm going with a C load range tire for MPG purposes and I've narrowed it down to the following:

    Cooper A/T3
    BFG KO2
    Goodyear Duratrac

Size will be 265/70/17 and want the most aggressive looking while road tame tire. I've run numerous sets of BFG's (A/T, M/T, KM2, and KO's) during my jeep days and while good I do feel they are overpriced. Also ran Cooper STMAXX's for the past 30k miles and loved everything about them but the weight.

95% road driving and 5% off highway driving on a monthly basis.

Out of those 3 my personal choice would be the Coopers. :D

I don't know from personal experience, but my mom has them on her 90 Yota and I know quite a few that have them. They won't be as good as the Duratracs in the mud but as good or better than the KO2's. If I was driving in mud regularly I wouldn't get the K02s or the AT3's.

I've been very satisfied with my Duratracs. Ride, wear, noise level, all have been great and they look good too. What sealed the deal for me is the performance it provides in snow.

Mud isn't a frequent condition but some of the areas I go at times can be muddy.

Do the c load ko2's still have the stronger sidewalls?

I had 265/75/16 duratracs C load. did great. if they made them in a 255/85/16, I would have bought them again. wheeled them pretty hard. never a failure. they do require balance every 5K or more though, at least mine did. not an issue though if you buy at a place with lifetime balance. Discount Tire out here

Thank you for the recommendation JimboAnz. We carry any of the 3 tires you are looking for and have local Discount Tire stores in your area finslayer83. Here is a link to our store finder:

Both the Goodyear DuraTrac and Cooper ST Maxx are solid tires in mud.

I owned the AT3s and they are not near as aggressive as the other two tires you mentioned. However, they cleaned out surprisingly well for an AT that is maybe at best moderate for an AT tire. I would go Falken over the Cooper. I really like Cooper tires but I had issues keeping mine balanced on my second gen. Of the 3 you list it depends on what you intend to use them for. The Duratrac is the most aggressive and will win the snow and mud war all day whereas the Cooper and BFG may be quieter.
