Very nice. Been thinking of a silver or charcoal but decided against another one as Ryder doesn't like to share his attention from us lol

I have done the same. I think Riley's being older would be unfair to him to bring a new puppy into the picture.
Not that he wouldn't love the company some tim

I have, some people/breeders see them as red headed step children but I think they're gorgeous and have known several that haven't had any medical problems. Just my .02

And you probably read that it wasn't so long ago that chocolates were not considered "purebred Labradors" either :D

I'm with you though. They are as any retriever is; just silver.

I would skip past the first couple searches in Google that are from breeders telling you there's nothing to worry about. The independent studies I read, show it's a genetic defect.. not only that, the breeding pool is incredibly low, so you've got the issues that come from small breeding pools as well. I imagine there are plenty of dogs without problems. But the opportunity to get one with problems is much higher. I've never read the same thing about chocolate Labs.

Technically, chocolate is a genetic "defect" as well. Silver has become something of a trend and there are people breeding for silver irresponsibly-this is true for all popular breeds and the fashionable breeds like labradoddles and teacups.

Yep. Small gene pool which is always bad. Silver is a mutation. The silver is a double d gene that is a "dilute" from the chocolate lab.

Anyways here's my pups from today IMG_4851.jpgIMG_4796.jpg

The reality is you need a large pool from which to develop any breed. Look around at all the animals bred in captivity and you can see some poor examples of "saving the species" style breeding. Same thing the puppy mill breeders are doing.

If it's silver its meant to be a weimaraner. Labs come in 3 colors. Silver & Fox Red are not Labs. :annoyed:
