Does anyone know how to make the lower cost viper keyless entry beep when you lock or unlock with it?

You could wire it to the horn. The viper should have a siren or horn output. Typically vipers have a (+) siren output. The horn is triggered by a (-) signal. So you would need to wire up a relay to change the polarity of your siren output to connect it to your horn wire.

I have one of the higher end keyless systems (forget which manufacturer off hand) and had it professionally installed. They told me they are very difficult to wire up to the horn and it's probably not worth it. I kicked myself a bit for not getting the convenience package, then moved on with my life.

They lied to you. It's only one relay.

If you want it tied into the factory keyless system you need a data module to give you the OEM lock/unlock chime. However there is a synchronization issue with these modules and the factory keyless entry currently so there are some issues.

But since you have an SR I'm guessing it doesn't have factory keyless so your system will need to be hard wired. The viper has a negative horn wire on it and you sinple tie that right into the horn trigger. No relay is needed. Most shops are lazy and don't hook it up or use it to make more money, as an "added feature"

I do have a viper remote start and keyless entry, in order for the horn to sound when locked and unlocked whoever installed the system has to plug their programmer into the truck and edit it. That's the only way to do it!

I do! But your in the US so doesn't help much hahaha.

depends on which brain is used. It is on some a default setting that's turned on so long as you wire up the "horn/chirp" wire.
