Trac Off AND Check Engine Light on

Both lights have came on recently. It happened right around the time my truck wouldnt start all the way up. Found that it was a loose wire on my remote starter... Problem solved... so I thought... 2 lights still come on. Truck starts and runs fine, but as soon as I start to drive they come on. No other symptoms at all other than the lights, truck runs fine. My cheap Amazon reader said it was a p0500 code?? Reading other threads I heard everything from a loose gas cap lid(not it) Charcoal canister, and 02 sensor. At first I thought this had to do with my remote starter but it seems to not be the case anymore since I fixed it. Any thoughts? Any help is much appreciated. How bout it @nazlax10

 

That's a tough one man. I do know from reading other threads that one of those lights causes other to come on automatically. I can't remember which one triggers which, but that's why both are on. Now as far as why they're on I have no clue. Have you cleared them at all? It honestly could be nothing now and they just need to be cleared.

 

Cleared several times. It won't come on at idle, but as soon as I go 50 yards they come back on

 

When you fill your truck up do you put more fuel in after the nozzle clicks?I think I've read that doing that can mess with the charcoal cannister in the gas tank, not 100% sure on that but lets hope it's not that because I think it's not a cheap fix.

Yes I read that as well. No I don't double tap. What confuses me is that there are no symptoms at all whatsoever, she runs great.

 

I googled p0500 and it says something about the vehicle speed sensor. Maybe look into that? Possibly could have a bad connection perhaps, I wouldn't think yours would be bad seeing as you have a 2015, but anything's possible I suppose.

 

Maybe that would make sense why it wouldn't come on at idle and only when moving forward? I haven't read anything on that yet and will have to keep digging. Thanks

So on this topic, when you installed the overhead console you tapped into the purple wire with a white stripe right? I wonder if you possibly have a bad connection there?

 

The one behind the radio? Yes I will check after work. Only takes a couple minutes to get back there.

Yep that's the one and with the info from Ben I'm betting more on that. You may also want to check the connection at the overhead display to make sure there's no issues there either. When you made the connection behind the radio did you cut the wire and not reconnect it to the radio, or did you splice the overhead display wire into the speed sensor wire?
Basically which one of these scenarios?

Behind the radio I just used a simple quick splice(might be the culprit). The connection on the console side is legit like the first scenario.

 

Update: The @nazlax10 theory worked!! I was skeptical at first because my connections seemed fine, but I tightened the connection and then reset the code. Turned my truck off, back on, drove 10 miles, then turned it off, started it back up, and drove all the way home and the light never came back on. And as I said earlier the light usually came on within the first 40 yards of driving. Thanks for all the input everybody and especially to David for his continued assistance with my Tacoma!
