That's like asking why are divorces so expensive.
answer: Because its worth it lol

It's really unfortunate that the government made you live there. What would it be like if we lived in a country that allowed its people to live anywhere they wanted to?!??

You need to invest in a good sleeping mat first, then a good sleeping bag, if the ground is too cold. I've never slept in a RTT, but I imagine quite a bit of air circulates between the roof of the truck and the floor of the tent. Sleeping in a ground tent with a proper mat and bag will probably be warmer.

Snakes won't get in your tent if you keep it zipped, by the way.

The tent has a 3" thick foam mat, I've never had a problem with feeling cold through the bottom while sleeping. I haven't used my tent in temps under 15° but so far it's been fine.

What tent are you talking about? I was responding to OP saying a ground tent is too cold. An air pad (not an air mattress) or sleeping pad, insulates you from the could ground and adds a little cushioning.

RTT, should've clarified. For my ground tents I usually use an inflatable thermarest to insulate and pad the ground.

That's what I'm talking about. I have one and it's a lifesaver. Much cheaper option for OP than a RTT.

An RTT is only as expensive as the market will bear.

If they are too expensive, no one will buy and either the price will drop or manufacturing will stop because there is no profit to be made.

Why is a Lexus more expensive than a Toyota?

Same thing, market will bear it.

I'm sure all the happy RTT owners are now upset that they didn't consult with a financial analyst before purchasing so that they could be sure they weren't spending their own money in a way that was not to the liking of a total stranger on the internet, and also consult with a comedian to make sure they weren't getting laughed at about it.

I often laugh at all those idiots who spent mucho $$$$$$ for a Gelandewagen, since I know that a Suzuki Samurai could go more places. Oh wait, I don't.

I think we should all ask the opinion of random people before spending our own money on something that meets our own specific budget and wants and/or needs.

Since the all the psychic hotlines are gone, where else can sound advice be found?

To be honest, we all do it to a certain extent. I tend to laugh inwardly at people who put $4000 wheels on a $1000 car, but it's their money and they didn't ask my approval before buying. And what they spent their money on has net Zero result on my own little slice of life here on Earth, but it probably helped put food on someone's table or a Panzerwagen in someone's garage.

Edit: I'll bet this guy wishes he had been in an RTT. The bear likely would have chosen one of the easier pickings on the ground.

Oh I'm just screwing around. They are pretty nifty set-ups. Not my cup of tea though. Maybe if I wasn't getting to be such an old codger I'd consider one, lol. Alas- back to the canvas tents for me for hunting base camps. My new R/V is a Springbar tent, and they ain't exactly cheap either. My hunting buddies are all older to, so we need things on the ground for those, umm, frequent callings in the night, lol.

New digs- (that's my dog with an older friend of mine).

Not exactly roughing it either. :)
