Man, Ive been waiting and waiting for some type of law enforcement agency to start hiring. I just turned 21 on Sunday, and i want to get my career going. Id like to stay in Arizona, because my fiance is still in school.

But i cannot find anyone who is hiring!!??

I did apply at UofA Police Dept, but they still have not responded.

If anyone knows of any Police agencies that are looking for Recruits(not lateral) Please let me know!!

    Thanks all

How about border patrol, not police but law enforcement, and they always need people in AZ.

Border patrol and U.S. Customs requirer a 4 hour test you take, if you pass, you'll move on. contact there websites. but border patrol, you have to at least do 2 to 3 years on the mexican border, you can check in security for starters. but to get hired on better i'd go ahead and get your acadamy out of the way and put out your applications. better chance in this economy

I have heard rumor from a 2 Gila River Indian Community Police officers that they are going to hire 12-14 officers in the very near future. Check em out. We're hiring laterals.

I don't know of any departments that are hiring in the Phoenix Area. You might want to consider seeing if a local department will let you do an internship or allow you to volunteer. You might also want to look into different reserve programs.

Well I work for customs and the test did suck, but I'm in now and it's a good job. I didn't have to go to the border. But that's pretty much where they need people. I just lucked out, but it's good pay and a 20 year retirement. And border patrol gets sweet guns to play with.

Also, since we are close to the border here BP is everywhere and I know quite a few of them. They love it. I believe pay starts around 42k or so while in the academy (5 months in New Mexico), then goes up from there. Your first two years with BP though are probationary and they continually test you on knowledge of laws and Spanish language. At the end of two years they rate you on your final test and decide to bring you on full time permanent or not.

Not sure on Border patrol but I started at 36k as a GS5 and now I'm a GS7 at about 45k but I live and work in California so we get alittle more to start with. If you have a degree you start at a 7

Wackenhut does a lot of transport stuff for Immigration. When I was TDY'd out to Phoenix, I dealt w/ them on a daily basis. Fwiw, a lot of the guys I spoke to at Wackenhut were looking to get out.

BP pays up to a 12. Coming fresh off the street, expect 5 or 7 pay if you graduated w/ honors. 12 is Pretty good though when you consider AUO and FLSA, then factor in overtime and you're over 100k. You can always find pay rates by looking on the opm website. And BP is 6c covered, so your retirement/pension starts and can carry over to other agencies too.
BP academy is in Artesia. When you apply, you can put in your state/aor request. They try to accomodate you. You can usually turn down their first offer if you dont like where they put you and more than likely, you'll get another call w/ a different area. Could be better or worse.

I'm in the same boat man, I'm 23 almost 24 and will be graduating from ASU in a couple months and still have no LEO prospects as of now. I'm going to look into the PHX reserves and try and get in that way soon.
