    Hello!
I was wondering if you put a locking diff in the rear of a 2010 trd sport if the LSD would still work since the 2009+ use the braking system to control the LSD features?

    from the manual...
●When the rear differential is locked, VSC is automatically turned off. (The rear differential lock and VSC OFF indicators come on.)
●The following systems do not operate when the rear differential is locked. It is normal operation for the ABS warning light and VSC OFF indicator to be on at this time. If the DAC switch turns on, the downhill assist control system indicator light flashes. • ABS • Brake assist system • VSC • TRAC • Downhill assist control system • Hill-start assist control system

Thanks for the quick response! I was actually wondering if I replaced my differential with a locking one if the limited slip would still apply since the sports no longer use mechanical limited slip diffs but use the braking system to act in place of the limited slip diff!

Oh, I misread your post. I thought you were asking if you engaged the lock, I thought that you already had a locking diff. Sorta new to the tacoma world.

Hi guys. I got a question for ya. I have a 4x4 trd sport and want to put a locker in the rear. What do you consider the most economical choice that can be thrown in without changing the gearing? I don'thave a $1000 for an arb

My guess is you probably don't need or want a full time locker. I regularly drive mine in very rough terrain and and its a four season daily driver. I personally wouldn't have anything but a selectable locker and my stock e- locker works just fine.

Full time lockers can be had for half or less than the price of a selectable air or cable locker like the ARB or Ox. Maybe one of the e- lockers is cheaper. If you aren't aware of all the various options check out this page.

I went with a true Detroit locker. It was unstoppable. I would do it again in a heartbeat over the selectable lockers for the rear. (I have had both types in toyota's I've owned) Most of the time I didn't even need to drive in 4wheel as it automatically engaged.

    Cheers,
    -Jon

So did you need to change the gearing at all or are the detroits drop ins? What else would I need and what makes/ model of locker should I go for if I choose detroits?I like to take my truck out to the mountains, go a "little" 4wheelin through trails when I go shooting. Excuse my lack of knowledge there of.

Fuck lunch box lockers. Go selectable or not at all. I have a grizzly, I really want an ARB.

To the OP: no a selectable locker will not change anything with the brake applied "limited slip" when its not engaged. I do hope you can disable that feature though as it might get a little weird with it locked but maybe not? Maybe it can tell when tires are not turning at different rates and won't apply? Not sure on that part.

If you read his posts, he doesn't want to drop the cash for a selectable and the install.

If you read my post I say go selectable or don't buy a locker.

No, what he said is he doesn't want to spend $1,000 for ARB. He also said he only wheels a little when he goes shooting. Nonselectable lockers are a poor choice for vehicles primarily used on pavement and gravel roads. My advice is to either buy a selectable locker that is more economical than ARB (electric and cable actuated are both options) or wait until enough money has been saved to do it right with a selectable option. But if he wants to ignore that advice it's his truck and his money.

Thanks again steelhd! I'll wait and save up some money for a selectable, preferably an arb. Any input on grizzly zip lockers?

Grizzly automatic or Zip? Two different things. Zip is selectable air and should be just fine. Ox manual and Eaton electric should be just fine too. My Jeep has a Detroit in the rear and an ARB in the front but I bought it that way. If I ever have to rebuild it I will go with Ox in the front. Maybe in the rear too. Air can be a pain in the ass at times.
