I've been looking at SW Colorado for some time now. I use to fly for a guy who owned a home near Durango. I love it out there.

I have two friends who are trying to get me to move to FL instead of Utah. I can't imagine not having the diversity of terrain that we have out West to escape to at a moment's notice. And I don't even like the water, so that eliminates the one big selling point Florida has.
It's incredibly sad that California is destroying itself with its politics.

lol what. no way, keep them over there. our homelessness and vagrant population is already off the charts. even in nicer parts of town there are just full on shanty town setups - it's wild.

I have no problem with the states population growing and outdoor recreation growing with it. It's the lack of respect and education that these people have which bothers me.
If we all made half an effort to educate ourselves and then execute properly, we wouldn't be watching our trails get closed down due to misuse.

heard enough about it to know where to stay away from :bananadead:
being a bit of a military brat i've lived in a bunch of places, luckily we never settled in the American middle-east as my family calls it. east side but the non-costal states.
Was pretty gnarly down in the GA mountains & atlanta area, lived down there ~8 years.

aint that the truth. I love my location. Im 3 hours from Bay Area, 2 hours to eastern Sierra, 30 minutes to major services (if I truly need them). Reno is 1/2 a day as it Tahoe... I love the central location and the unlimited variety of things to do here. I absolutely cannot fathom staying in this state for the long term because of its leadership, politics and nanny-state rules.

That's exactly my thoughts as well. I'd like to travel it one day but don't see myself living there ever.

Just need to move one county north and you can live in the great State of Jefferson (if it happens...) the home of Candy Mountain!

you can bet we will if it ever comes to fruition! Otherwise we are already planning our longterm retirement place anywhere but here. But it will be in the western states.

I like the idea of being free from the bozos in Sacramento and along the coast. However, That is where all the tax money comes from. My fear is that the state of Jefferson will become the poorest state in the union.

yup. I think a county in Alabama (Winston?) has tried a few times over the years too. Alabama is already poor. How do they think they were going to have capital to survive?

I agree. Grass is always greener. Kinda reminds me of the song "Big Rock Candy Mountain".

I would still vote for it in a heart beat though.

I'm still having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that my home(born and raised) will soon be another "It's a nice place to visit, but I'd never move there" state.
When I was a kid, my friends and I could run around with our BB guns and no one would even look twice. Now I can't even carry a cased rifle to my car without the entire neighborhood being locked down. It's really depressing.
Utah is a wonderful place and with a few friends already there, I feel like I'll manage to fit in.

i was around that bb-gun age when we were living right outside of DC, right down the street from NIH and the National Naval Medical Center. We'd walk around the neighborhood in full camos w plate carriers and airsoft guns to go play in the woods, no big deal. Now you try that, first neighbor to see you is calling DHS, the state police, county police, etc...

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
I lived in Montgomery for three years and absolutely hated the humidity. That feeling of taking a shower and trying to dry off for five minutes and realizing, your not going to get dry.

Yep seen those suckers on tv. Think the cold would kill them off. Just seems to make them bigger.

    Thanks!

Thanks! Yeah it was pretty awesome. I had some chicken cooking in it. All the pix are in Southern OR besides the one I have Mt. Shasta behind. That was in Northern CA...

Thanks man! I love my FSR...

Yes that's Crater Lake. I camped at the Union Creek Canpground which was about 20 mins away from Crater Lake. Very spacious sites and next to the river. There are a few campgrounds around Crater Lake area. I've heard about the campgrounds near or at Diamond Lake but didn't get a chance to reserve a spot. There's also a lot of dispersed camping around that area. Just need to look around...

FWB, yes, I'm from BPL, don't visit bping forums much, same stuff. I did get a Duplex to use with the new pup, easy set up, plenty of room when bping. Got a canvas Kirkham Springbar tent for serious car camping, but still prefer a smaller and easier to set up nylon type tent for car camping. Was in the Caribou Wilderness here in N Kalifornia last Friday night with the pup, some snow there still, used the Zpacks Duplex there.

Very cool! I've had a double rainbow for many years for backpacking and there's a few things I find lacking in it. I've also been using a RTT and there's a lot I don't like about that too. I have a zpacks pack and have been eyeballing that duplex for some time and thinking to consolidate to it.

    Beautiful wilderness, beautiful pup.

    Be well,
    B.
