I waxed the shit out of mine too hoping it would protect it. Picked it up at the Dealer 61 days later and now I'm dealing with some kind of pollution/burnt in crusty bumps or some shit after a wash and wax when I got it home. I'm calling the Dealer in the AM to raise hell and get them to fix my bumpy ass paint job! If you have a cover, cover it! 60+ days in 90to100 degree days with fog wet dry bake and what ever other shit the Dealer lot has floating around plays hell on paint!

As they should be. This whole thing has been handled very badly.

This whole thing is making me regret turning my 2014 4x4 lease in.

The thing with threads like this is you hear nothing but horror stories. Here's my story - I heard about the recall and checked the website, my VIN was listed. I contacted my dealer and they said "don't worry about it, unless you see something, until you get a recall letter". A bit after that, they contacted me to arrange my free 6 month service and I asked them if they could take care of recall work while it was in there. They did, they checked it and retorqued the bolts and I got my truck back the same day.

I have no other problems with my truck and I'm not affected by the other recall folks are talking about, so not everyone is unhappy and suffering (not to take away from those that are, but folks should also know that some aren't).

See my post here, and try not to let this ridiculously overblown dire warning of impending doom get you down. Look at your rear-end (the truck's rear-end, not literally your own) and see if it is dry, "misting", "weeping" or "leaking"; if misting or weeping just a bit torque the nuts to 18 lb·ft, check the fluid level, and then go on with life as you had planned.

If it is leaking I (as in me, myself, I--not intended as recommended action unless you "know your limitations") would drain the fluid, measure what I drained and if > 2 liters re-torque the nuts, refill the gear oil, and be happy that I had averted disaster. If < 2 liters I'd make an appointment with the dealer and insist that the "loaner" be equal or better...

Tomorrow will be 70 days since my truck was confiscated by my dealership for the recall. As of last Wednesday they claim parts have started coming in for the trucks they have but they are still waiting on parts for mine. What angers me is not the fact that corporate is failing miserably with this entire ordeal but the lack of communication from the dealer. Last week was the first I heard from them after calling and leaving a message the day before. I've renewed my rental twice and am starting to think I will need to renew again. Rental is due for 5000 mile service in less then 100 miles.

Depends what they have you in. Mine being a Toyota rental from their location, I had to renew every 30 days also. If you need to they'll call you in. I went 67 days and had to renew twice.

Update: returned to the Dealer this morning, to bitch about my "bumpy paint" after my truck had been sitting on the Dealers lot for 61 days while waiting for the fix. Dearler agreed to "clay bar" my truck to resolve the "fallout" that accrued while my paint got the shit kicked out of it by the weather. We walked over to a few other Tacos that were on the lot with mine that were repaired and waiting for pickup from their owners. The paint on all the Tacos were bumped up too! I said they might not even notice or give a crap but I do...

I won me a Honda CRV

FWIW I had 2 weep spots at about 7 and 4 o'clock. Not much the size of a quarter for each one. Part of me thought they were just going to wipe it clean, torque and send me on my way. Nope, its going to take 3-4 weeks.

Windward Servco. Thanks for the heads up regarding the undercarriage. Ill definitely take a look under before I sign off. I want a wash as well.

They sent me to Kaneohe Enterprise and there was not much to choose from. If I wanted a truck, there's a waiting list. I could have raised hell but Im cool with not having a truck. I took the best of what they had and that was a CRV with about 2000 miles on it. I did ask to be put on the "truck waiting list" and interestingly enough they told me that I am the 16th tacoma loaner that showed up over the past 4 weeks. They expect a lot more moving forward.

What is the BS in the official recall will take 45 min. to 3 hrs. to fix?

I only have two small seeps and they've had my truck 65 days.

This isn't replacing a frame it's a gasket and bolts. For the love of all that's worthy...

18 here, 30 there, 80 over there... I'm one of the first in line, the line hasn't even started moving yet.

To the cool Toyota tech who posted the official fix on June 15... what news you hear?

If not seeping...45 minutes to torque and send you on your way. If seeping they have to pull axles and drop driveshaft to pull carrier to get to the seeping gasket.....3 hours allotted. Here's another pic of parts used for full replacement.

45 minutes to torque 10 nuts, something that can be done in the parking lot on most Tacomas? It took me 5 minutes at most to torque my neighbor's '17 DCSB--including spraying some brake cleaner and wiping down the axle, and washing my hands afterwards...
