Taco for an F150 FX4 with 86k

You have the 6.2 with 8 speed so that is a much better truck than the rest of the GM lineup as far as drivetrain issues. The 5.3s all will shake you out of the truck with the 6 speed tranny. GM has determined that the vibration, because they cannot fix it, is acceptable. Google Chevy Silverado vibration issues or Suburban or Tahoe, and see what you get. My 2015 GMC Yukon XL lived in the shop and vibrated so bad until it made us sick. Also, Google cabin pressure issues with the GM truck of choice. So, GM replaced our 2015 Yukon XL with a 2016 with more on it for free. At 3800 miles the front shocks and struts went out. We now have 9000 and they are out again and we live on great roads and never go off-road in it. My taillights won't even stay on the vehicle. On the 2015 trim pieces have fallen off going down the road and for a while we even filmed it. It was ridiculous. But, the 2016 wasn't much better than the 2015. GM also told me that if I got another 5.3 that they would not replace it because they "all" have at least some vibration and I got that in writing. I disagree that GM makes a better made truck. I have owned tons of GM vehicles and better made does not come to mind when I think of them. Best of luck with your Chevy. Peace.

 

Our Yukon XL is surprisingly nimble BUT we have had nothing but trouble out of both of them (2015 and 2016). Honestly, I think GM made great trucks about 15 years ago but now all I see and get is eye candy, smooth ride, and more problems than you can count. I could have justified keeping mine in the shop 24/7. Horrible vehicles.

 

I've heard of those issues, but they seem to be abating with the 8spds. One of the reasons I stuck with the 6.2.

5.0 is a great engine, but I've got a 17 F-150 with the 2nd gen 3.5 ecoboost on top of the 07 Taco. The new 10spd and 3.5TT work almost flawlessly. If you're willing to keep in the Toyota family, I would go 2nd gen, if not, F-150 for sure.

 

The 6.2 is nice. Honestly, I had Mary Barra on email going back and forth over my SUV. It was that bad. I have never had a vehicle that bad. They admitted that all 5.3s were affected to some degree with driveline vibration and that the 6.2 was the only one that didn't do it. They all had a well scripted response that no doubt came from their corporate lawyers. I got a new one and the vibration is there but not like the old one. I need new shocks and struts again but otherwise it was much better than the last one. The last one would have chrome falling off going down the road. It was truly a lemon.

 

Loving my 16 5.0 FX4. I have about 8400 miles on it right now and not a single problem with it. My 16 Tacoma was exactly 6 months old when I traded it and it had about 6400 miles on it. It had seen the shop 9x in that six months for issues. Like some others on here have mentioned, I would recommend looking for a newer, less mileage F150 which could probably be had for a not a whole lot more. Unless you need that $10K of course.

 

Just hit 102k, no issues. Did plugs, rotors, padsamd tires at 100k and did oil changes every 7500 miles.

Literally my only gripe is the doors. It sounds stupid but the front doors have a stop at about halfway which is about 2" short from interfering with opening the back doors on the extended cab. Someone at Ford dropped the ball on that detail. It's a pain in the ass when trying to get my son in and out of the car seat when I'm parking spots when I have cars on both sides of me due to the trucks width.

 

I bought it 2 years old with 68k miles for $21k and the truck was mint. Still looked like it just left the factory.

 

For the money and quality you get with ford I think it's hard to beat them on the fullsize game. I truly love driving my truck and from time to time i still get surprised by the 5.0. Just such a good motor

Quick edit - I have 22k miles on it now, just oil changes and tire rotations.

 

The second gen EcoBoost with the 10-speed auto is a BOSS. The 5.0 is solid too and doesn't sound like a leaf blower like the EB engines tend to.

 

Wow that sucks. I wouldn't have bought a 5.3. I heard too many horror stories like yours. I'd rather jump to the 2500 and a 6.0 before a 5.3.

I literally have no issues at this point- maybe a slight little surge from a stop in the tranny, and my dealer said they have a tsb for it, but it's so rare I doubt I will screw with it.

I'm just amazed at the performance of the 6.2. Christ it get's better mileage than the Taco. That's just frekin' insane.

It was a tough toss up between the F-150 little EcoBoost and the Chevy. The interior and low end grunt of the Chevy won out. I could have bought a 2016 F-150 extended cab, new, for $34,000. I would up paying $41,000 for the Chevy.

 

We get 21mpg in the city and 25 on the road in our huge Yukon. Crazy good mileage but geez they have been a dog. I'm hoping the 16 holds up better. If not I'm buying a 2018 Expedition.

 

Ever think about the 6.0? Step up to the 3/4 ton? Damn reliable power plant. Not great on mileage, but serviceability is top notch.

 

I'm good with the Taco for now. I have been in a Taco for some time now and I just don't like the fullsize feel. That 6.0 is one more reliable engine - tough as nails. I'm thinking I'll stick with the Taco unless there is no fix for this howling rear diff. If that doesn't get fixed then all bets are off!

 

Sounds like overwhelming advice to get the F150 OP. Better get it before someone else does.
