oh no....TSB-0171-16 Driveline vibration

The steering dampener did nothing to reduce the shudder when decelerating through 20 mph. I'll be back soon for the rear differential recall and ask for the next step, I.e. Leaf springs. I'm so looking forward to the visit......

 

the dampener isn't the problem. the problem is the excessive driveline angle. the updated leaves have a wedge built into them rotating the rear end housing in an upward direction thereby reducing the angle and eliminating the rumble strip sensation. the dampener was just an add on to be sure you don't feel it in the wheel. that in itself won't do thing for you. return the part to the dealer

 

finally got the vibration fixed. First trip to dealer, was told its normal. Called Toyota corporate and started a case file. Called them occasionally. Finally had a good teck at the dealership compare mine to another. Verified abnormal vibration. Field Service Teck visited and agreed. Swapped driveshaft but didn't work. Updated to new leaf pack with shims which changed the geometry of the drive train.
It took a while but the polite complaining paid off.

 

When were you experiencing the vibration?

 

between 20 and 40 mph. and more pronounced when breaking within those speeds. Just like the TSB said.

 

dealer told me it was my lift and I said BS. I'll try a different dealer.

 

Called my dealer about the vibrations...steering wheel feels like a vibrator...and they are trying to tell me the wheels are not balanced. This should be fun.

 

I've got a 2017 TRD DCSB Sport. I bought it used with 9000k miles on it a week ago. It has a lift/leveling kit on it. Looks like a 1" block under the rear leafs and running 285's. I feel this same rumble strip at the same speeds but it is there too around 40 to 50mph. 4 wheel high doesn't help either at the low speeds 10-20mph. Build date is 11/16. I'll be calling the dealership tomorrow after finding multiple threads like this one.

 

I gave up. Stereo and fast speeds. Have them check it next maintenance. Continue exploring

 

Do yourself a favor like I did. Get some tapered blocks to tilt the pinion up a little. It got rid of my rumble strip vibs when coming to a stop. Reason I know it works as I had no tapered blocks installed when I first lifted the rear of my taco. Installed tapered blocks and my vibs are gone

Thats a carrier drop spacer you linked too. Yes I should of mentioned that I needed that as well but the tapered rear blocks is what really cured my drive line vibs.

 

I'm feeling the light washboard around 20 mph when slowing like you all are talking about. Causes a rattle near my climate controls. And mine was built on April 4, 2017. Off Road double cab. I guess I'll call my dealer. Anybody else getting this with such a recently built truck? I would have thought that any fix would have been applied already at the factory.

 

Dang. I just signed in for the first time to do some quick research. I'm scheduled for a test drive tomorrow and I'm in a position to buy so I wanted to know what factory issues to look for. I'll check it out and see if slowing down causes vibration. Yikes!!

I looked for it too on my test drive. Didn't notice it but it'll just feel like a washboard road until you drive the road enough to realize it isn't grooved. Then you come here and read and say, "What the heck? You mean this is a thing?" I'm really interested to see what my dealer says with my truck being a 2017 OR.
