I'm trying to get an estimated time to remove and re-install the drive shaft on my 2011 DCLB. I somehow ripped part the front drivetrain boot off this weekend and need to replace it. Any information on time would be greatly appreciated. I have some other commitments and need to block out the appropriate time. Thanks in advance.

I agree. 2 14mm wrenches and less than half an hour. Easier to put the axle on jackstands so you can rotate the driveshaft.

Sorry, if its the front driveshaft, no need to put the rear axle on jackstands. If its in two wheel drive, the front drive shaft should already be able to spin freely.

only 8 bolts that can be on very tight so use long wrenches if posible
Mine had to be backed out 3 turns, lube and thread back in a few times to get them out since I live in rust belt and took me an hour to remove it

soak in acetone and ATF 50% mix or use PBlaster night before to make it easier

^^^ Yeah, don't forget to mark how everything lines up before you remove it or else you'll likely end up with vibration issues.

it's not my rear drive shaft. it's the small front drive shaft (I think it's the 4WD drive shaft?) It's not the boot that goes into the CV joint but the rear boot on that small drive shaft. Any ideas on the part number for that small boot? Thanks.

Took me about an hour overall. It was pretty quick. Some of the bolts were a bugger to remove even with the PBBlaster.

They can be a PITA, especially with the fine threads. A Air Rachet and a Wobblie extension once you break them loose make life so much easier.

Yep agreed. But it all went back together pretty smooth and no problem with vibrations afterwards
