Haha, from one minivan to the next. Should just swap wheels/tires and no one will know the difference...

I drove a Sienna in Hawaii for a week, I liked it, but the wife is hesitant about driving a big vehicle.

So if I'm up a Canyon somewhere in the middle of nowhere in the Sierra, is this going to do me any good? I understand I need a HAM license to operate it.

If you are with buddies with the same band radio, yes. But if you are ridgetop you may be able to hit a local repeater. Easier in the desert /near town though.

Yeah, I should clarify. If I were solo up a canyon. OK, that what I thought. Climb and hope for a signal.

I picked up a set a couple months ago. Used them on a couple runs with some guys here. Haven't gotten my license yet. But on low power, in the convoy, no problem. I'll eventually stop procrastinating and get the damn license.

Same here, seems like everyone is going Ham, so have to be one of the cool kids. Also don't want to be "that guy" without a radio on a trip. Now to find a ham license test near me.

Good point. Also a lot more $ and not a Prime day deal ending in -6 minutes. LOL.

I got the Baofeng, effectively half off with the large battery and also got a long-range whip. I've been wanting to learn HAM stuff anyway.

For backpacking in the High Sierra in the future, that DeLorme is definitely a consideration.

Yeah...sounds like a research project. Or hipster survival tool. I can make tourniquets and eat rocks for a week as I claw my way over a 13k ft pass.
