True about mileage and fuel costs affecting vehicle prices. One of my other cars is a Prius. They are scarce as frog's hair, and I was in the dealership the other day and noticed a certified used one on the lot, went over and took a gander, it was an '08 Package #2 with about 10K on the odo......same one as I've got. They were asking $27K for it. Mine was $23K with 6 miles on the odo back in December. First vehicle I've ever owned that went up in value after I bought it!

Out of curiosity, is it standard for them to charge $500 to bring a truck in from another dealer (they don't have the color I want)?

I've seen it suggested but think it's BS.An attempt to sway you into buying one of thier stock models as opposed to getting you one.My understanding is that it is much more lucrative to sell thier own stock....Another barginning chip however....If they don't have the color you want but you secretly could live with one they have, tell them you'll settle but it has to be made worth your while.

I had a 97 Ranger X-Cab. It was worth $2900-$3000 with air which mine was broken. It had 118,000 on it, and was in pretty good shape. All the dealers(all) would only give on a trade was $1200. They do not want or need used vehicles at this time. so sell it yourself as is and you will get whatever Edmunds or Blue Book says. Look at the good price for selling and be honest. I went for a quicker sale because of the air, and the old guy was really nice, all cash up front, good buy truck, hello $2600. I could have maybe got a little more$100-200, but fast and as is. My 2007 PreRunner DC Long Bed was $3000 under MSRP and I had $5000 to put down. The dealers like cash not trades. They aren't playing games with you, it is the reality of the times. Deals are there, but you must negotiate from a strength position, a trade is not part of that usually.....Rich 0916070085150Largejpgs.jpg1_d195082ed80c24e496f0dfc197d6e37021b15133.jpg

My dealer asked for a 500 deposit. Not an extra 500 in the selling price.

That makes sense and is perfectly reasonable on their part. If they go to the trouble and expense of going to get a vehicle from another dealership they don't want to then have a customer take a look at it and change his/her mind.

Mine was brought in off lot as well - I was asked for the $500 deposit and just made the dealer put it in writing that it was 100% refundable if I didn't want to close the deal (still needed my wife to test drive a taco...) I think asking more to bring in what you want is total BS - you're buying a new car after all - you should get what you want and not be penalized because of the stock the dealer decides to have on lot.
