    I managed to get the bolts loose by hammering the socket wrench with a rubber mallet until it breaks loose. I made sure I was using the correct size socket/hex for each bolt. Worked on all the driveline drain and fill bolts.

    I just did this today along with the rear diff for the first time myself at 51,000 miles. The Stealership did it the last time at 30,000 miles for $450 (front, rear, & transfer case). Saved me $450 (minus cost of oil & washers) that I can use for tools instead.

    I found it much easier to use an impact wrench with a light setting to break the bolts loose (Do NOT use one to close/tighten them!). I almost stripped the 24mm bolts trying to break them loose with a ratchet wrench.

    As for PB and the T55 torx, use 'em. They'll make your life easier.

    How many miles will you go once you have changed to mobile one in all three? I have 30k on mine since changing to mobile one. Wondering if its time to change the gear oil again.

    Even with premium or long life oils, I would still stick with the recommended service intervals.

    Hello guys,

    Forgive the noob question I'm about to ask. I just read about the diff , transfer case oil change. I have never changed these oils since i got my taco back in 2014. I am now horrified to do this as I don't know what to expect.
    So here are my questions, which I'm sure the answers are on the thread but here i go....

    1. what oil should i be using when changing the diff and transfer.
    2. I know there are different bolts to unscrew but what sizes do I need and what are the torque specs.

    I have a 2014 DCLB SR5 Pre with 77k miles.

    Anything else I should know since this is my first time?

    Thanks and again sorry for the noob question....

    Should be just the rear differential. The transmission is designed to be maintenance free, there are differing opinions here but it's not a job for someone that isn't sure of what they are doing.

    Yeah I feel you. I've done miscellaneous things on my vehicles but felt the same when I dug into this the other weekend. It's just a stepping stone of more knowledge and confidence. Thankfully we have good people on this forum to give us advice and know how. If it wasn't for that my wallet would be more malnourished than it already is.

    It looks to be the Drain plug. I would have to see a better picture from a little farther away. Did you remove your belly pan to get to it? your fill plug should be just above around the 2 O clock position if I remember right. you might want to get new crush washers so it doesn't leak on you.

    Sorry you are correct for the transfer case. Drain at 6 and fill at 9. No magnet on either plug and take off the fill plug first.
